Taxi from Malindi Airport to Watamu

Booked to go TBBC in Jan 2013 with Thomson. Has anyone opted not to go on the coach transfer & organise a private taxi from airport to TBBC in Watamu.

If you have done this, can you please share details of a taxi company, and what the cost would be? I'm dreading a 2 hour journey on a coach transfer & prefer to get to the hotel ASAP.

There are usually taxis outside the airport. Cost should be no more then 2000.

I'm afraid Taxi is the "only" way to get to TTBC Watamu with all the luggage.

The PSV vehicles pyling this route are not exactly top class.

There is a very good bus called Mash that goes to MBA with stopover in Watamu but it leaves late in the evening. And most of the time it's fully booked.

For going from Malindi Airport to Watamu the easiest way is by taxi, and not by bus (for this short distance). When busses are full they often don't take other passengers and I don't think that Mash Bus goes to Watamu. They might stop at Gede Junction but not in Watamu!

Giriama - thanks for clarifying on the fact that Mash stops @ Gede.

Watamu is another 20 min drive from Gede.

Hi regarding transfer to watamu and TBBC having done this journey several times

the chances are you maybe the only one going to watamu to TBBC ( lucky you ) you will have a small direct transfer in small mini bus not stopping at any other hotels

on the way depending on traffic in Mombasa it still takes you to 1 hour 45 to 2 hours

on our last visit we did get a free transfer to TBBC with a good friend who we do safaris with but at the moment the charge is 6500 ks as for 2000 ks might get you to kilifi

as the price of fuel is very high

if i was you stick to the thomson transfer or i can can give details of taxi from watamu

Stepsahead, as far as I know, taxis from Moi International to Watamu are now at least Ksh12,000. It's 109km to Gede junction and another 7km down to TBBC. I don't think Ksh2000 would even get you to Mtwapa.

Hi. I thought Stepsahead wanted to gt to watamu from Malindi airport, as tat is wha the thread is titled. To Kilifi we pay kshs 4500. So watamu I would double that. Allow around ksh 10,000/-.

My bad ..... first time to Kenya so I got my airports mixed up.

Looks like it will be easier to stick to the transfer bus. There are 3 of us so maybe we will have the transfer bus all to our selves. I just have this horrific image of a huge transfer coach, waiting for everyone to come out the airport of the long visa queues & then the slow journey to Watamu with the occasional drop off of guests at other hotels.
