How Easy is it to tow a camper trailer on Moreton Island

We are looking at camping on Moreton Island for three nights in July and will be towing a camper trailer . What are the roads like and are the camp ground very accessable with the car and trailer.

Hi,

Moreton Island has only sandy tracks and no sealed roads, the tracks are only suited to 4WD's.

yes if you are towing it with a 4WD and have a reasonable amount of experience with sand then you should be ok, but if is not your typical van-park kind of place.....;-)

Hi agree with the above but also suggest you ensure you arrive at or around low tide as you can't get to certain places depending on where you decide to camp.

You should be OK if you drive up the beach on the inland side of the island. You may be OK on the inland tracks, depending on how soft the tracks are. Hard to gauge that one until you're actually there but there are plenty of spots to camp on the northern inland side.

As Surfoz said, try to arrive at low tide. Otherwise you may have to sit and wait near the wrecks for the tide to change before you can drive anywhere.

Suzie, It really depends on where you want to go. You should be able to tow the camper trailer to Bulwer or Cowan Cowan on low tide.(Moreton Bay side) The inland tracks to go to the surf side, are very soft, so I'd be seeking advice from locals at Bulwer if you want to do that.

You will need a permit too. Go to www.moretonventure.com (the barge service to the northern end of the island) for frequently asked questions. Or www.epa.qld.gov.au Hope this helps.
