Questions re IHD

HI can anyone advise the following please?

Does the hotel provide beach/pool towels?

What brands of beer are available?

Is the beer available in bottles, or is it just on draft?

Can you walk into Bayahibe village from the hotel or is it better to get a taxi? If it's the latter any idea on prices to pay please?

Is there a limit on the number of times that you can visit the speciality restaurants over 2 weeks?

Any comments on the casino and disco?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Andrea61

I shall advise on the point that I have knowledge on.

The resort does provide beach/pool towels. You are given a towel card on arrival, you can exchange your beach/pool towel as many times has you like.

The beer served is normally a beer called PRESEDENTIE, you can get this beer either through a pump or bottle. The bottled beer is stronger.

You are normally restricted to the number of times that you can visit the speciality restaurants. However if the hotel is not busy and there are tables available when you try and book over your entitlement they may allow you to book.

My wife and I are due to visit in September for the first time. The advice given is correct because we have stayed in 3 different Iberostar hotels, and they all operate the same procedures.

They provide towels (as often as you like) when they have enough. You may have to plan ahead and collect a towel at the end of the day instead of a card just to be sure you have one in the morning. As a service to all, return your dirty one at night rather than in the morning to allow them time to launder it and put it back in circulation. If you'll keep your towel past the morning, do feel free to use it as long as you can without exchanging for a new one. If you keep it through the night and exchange for a new one first thing in the morning, that towel will sit in a hamper while somebody may be needing it.

Presidente is the most abundant (and best!). Brahma beer may be in the mini bar (not as highly recommended). …webshots.com/photo/2621627590064234328ALtXcq The drinks menu suggests that they have Soberana too (again, not so recommended). I've not seen it on tap so it may be in bottles. …webshots.com/photo/2278879640064234328HSfoHw

You can't walk to Bayahibe from the Iberostar. Don't confuse the quasi-Italian townsite of Dominicus outside the Iberostar gates as being Bayahibe. It's a hot, dusty and relatively dangerous walk along the road (no shoulders) from Dominicus to Bayahibe (45 minutes). Take a $10 cab ride or the $1 gua gua (bus) between locations.

I have only bad things to say about hotels which require reservations for the restaurants, and that extends to the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus. In a week at the hotel, I wasn't able to secure a reservation for even one restaurant. That was partially the first come, first served thing, partially poor instructions from the front desk as to the hours you can make reservations and partially that they didn't open all of the restaurants each night. You are usually allocated a few reservations a week, which is just more than doubled for a 2 week stay. As in 3 for one week, 7 for two.

The disco is fun. There isn't an onsite casino but the one across the street is definitely worth checking out. There are dancing girls and other entertainment as well as gaming.

Thanks for the replies Roy and Kaki - much appreciated!

I have another couple of questions if you're able to help me please?

The casino - do they trade in pesos or US dollars?

Football on TV - do they generally have English international football matches and English Premier league matches on in the hotel please?

Thanks

Hi Andrea61,

I cannot comment on what TV is broadcast at the IHD. It will be our first visit on 24 September 2010. Regards Roy
