First Trip Question

How does La Romana differ from Punta Cana/Bavaro? Are the resorts close together and is the beach walkable, trying to decide which resort, we have never been to La Romana.

1. Re: First Trip Question

La Romana is a 3rd largest city in Dominican republic. There are no resorts in the city itself, all resorts are about 15 minutes east of La Romana in Bayahibe (Dreams La Romana) and in Dominicus (additional 5 resorts), look at the website www.discoverbayahibe.com click on where to stay to see all resorts in the area. The biggest different between Bayahibe / Dominicus and Punta Cana / Bavaro area is the water. Punta Cana is by the Atlantic ocean, Bayahibe is by the Caribbean sea, much calmer, blue water.

You can walk from Dreams along the shore to Bayahibe village, or in Dominicus between the resorts all the way to the National Park

I agree with kapitan95... we did punta cana last year and dreams la romana in bayahibe this year and really preferred the vibe of bayahibe better... and the sea is so blue, warm and calm!

Bayahibe is a pretty, Dominican fishing village where you can really get a feel for Dominican life and everything is within walking distance. The area called Dominicus is a 5 minute / $US10 taxi ride away. Punta Cana is a resort styled area spread out over 35 miles of coast.

Thinking of doing a day trip to this area from Punta Cana. Do you know how far a ride it is? Also is there a public beach or would we have to get a day pass to one of the resorts?

I know it is about a 50 min ride from the airport - so just add on how far away you are from airport (and direction +/-).
