Grand nightlife

Hubby and I are staying at the Grand in November and I've read here and there that the nightlife is pretty quiet At the Grand. We are in our mid thirties and are definitely NOT looking for a spring break atmosphere and will prob only make it to the disco one or two nights but we'd still like it to be somewhat lively. Should I not expect this at all? We really enjoy getting to know the animation staff and participate in the games around the pool and have a few drinks after dinner and maybe catch a show. What should we expect with regard to nightlife?

I am 38 and spent 2 weeks at The Grand with my boyfriend in April this year. We found the entertainment just right for us. We used to go for dinner at 8.30pm, then go to the theatre, where the shows start at 10pm. There is table-service in the theatre.

There were a few nights that we didn't watch the show, so we had drinks in the lobby bar, where there was live music. There is also a music bar, where they have kareoke on some nights. We never felt the need to go to the disco once! and we are not boring people!

They have a mexican band in the buffet restaurant on certain nights, and an outdoor pool party as well. Check the info when you get there.

You could also take the shuttle or cab to Playa Del Carmen, about a 15 minute ride away, that has all the nightlife you could wish for. Coco Bongos is recommended.

Hoe this helps. Have fun!

We love the Grand because we can have a quiet romantic night or we can turn it up a notch if we like. I am early 30's now (almost mid 30's) and my husband is late 30's, but our first trip to the Grand was our honeymoon and I was 27. We have always managed to meet people and hang out with them in the evenings.

Typically we would hang out in the pool bar in the afternoons. We always meet people there and would usually decide to meet up at the Lobby bar after we all had dinner. Then once in the lobby bar, we would either stay there and socialize, go to the theater for the show, and then either head to the disco or the Rhapsody music bar. On the nights that they have karaoke at the rhapsody music bar it can get pretty lively and fun.

The Grand offers the best of both worlds for us as far as nightlife is concerned and we have always had a great time. Another way to meet new people and socialize is to sit at the lobby bar and strike up a conversation. We have meet some really sweet and wonderful people at the Grand that way.

Have a great trip.

My experience (3 time at the Grand) is that the night life is pretty tame. We usually take an 8:30 dinner reservation after the beach and pool all day. Finish eating then maybe check out the show. Our last trip we only sat through the rock show the others we maybe saw half. The lobby bar always has people around but not very lively in my opinion. Just folks having drinks and chatting. They may have some singers going or a 2 man band but by no means a rocking atmosphere. Just not the vibe the resort is looking for and I'm assuming the clientele either. It's fine just very low key. If we took the 6:30 reservation and say dinner was over in an hour I think we would have a really hard time finding something to do until 12:00 or 1:00 when we usually call it a night.

Thanks everyone. We usually eat a bit later around 730 or 8-ish and then like a good lobby bar and then maybe a show.......I can't wait for the pool party. And I'm pretty sure we'll be checking out the karaoke too. We like to have fun but in no way we are looking for a spring break atmosphere. We like to spend as much time by the pool and like to get an early start to our day....and will likely get our drink on during the day! So we're definitely not looking to be up till all hours. There is a beach party one evening too right?

No beach party. Dinner reservations are 6:30, 7, 8:30 & 9.

The show starts at 10 and sometimes they have a Casino night before. There were people dancing in the lobby bar my last couple visits. There's a disco over at the shopping center that starts at 11. When people say it's quiet I'm not sure what they are looking for. But hey, I've never done Jell-O shots in my life.

Our first time going to the Grand will be in October. Where can I find a list of activities? We are kind of in the same boat as original poster...need SOME nightlife but not Springbreak. Also in our 30s!! I'm beyond excited....can't wait, it's my first time to Mexico!

They have activities posted in a couple of different places at the grand I believe. One place is outside the main building on the walkway to the theater. (which that is sort of an out-of-the-way) place to display the activities I think. There may be activities posted next to the towel hut where the star friends hang out but I cant remember for sure.

In the evening you can hang out in the Lobby. There may be a small band. Show starts at 10 and they have a casino night as actran said on some evenings. Disco at the commercial center gets started about 11. The Rhapsody music bar at the Grand is also fun if there is anyone in there. They do Karaoke in that bar a few times a week.

The star friends are busy all day with activities. To name a few: yoga, water aerobics, beach volleyball, pool volleyball, various pool games, bike tour of the complex, etc.

I don't think the nightlife is quiet - I think it's more refined than what you'll find at some other resorts.

A typical day for us, is lazing around the beach, playing a few games, drinks in the room while getting ready for dinner, dinner at a restaurant, seeing one of the shows, then drinks at the lobby bar, which is pretty lively at that point.

Usually after that, we're so exhausted that bed is calling us, but this is usually well after midnight.

Hi Mollie,

I was wondering if you could tell me what time the lobby bar shuts please? My partner and I aren't really disco people but we do like a late night drink at the bar on holiday, and we have often been known to stay up til the wee hours chatting to the staff. We'd be a little gutted if the bar would be closed at midnight!

Thank you

Moon
