Cuban Beer (Besides Cristal or Bucanero)

Hi there,

Just wondering where in Matanzas one could pick up some Cuban beer besides Cristal and Bucanero (ie: Hatuey, Corona Del Mar, or others).

Also wondering about the cost? Thanks very much!

Those are all peso beers, not CUC beers, so no, they will will not be widely available - you'll have to ask around.

Cheers,

No joke.

Just wondering what's available in Matanzas, as we won't get to Havana till later during our trip.

When you do get to Havana, check out Taberna de la Murella – a “craft brewery”, with a few brews on tap. It is located on a corner of Plaza Vieja in Old Havana.

Beer can be served in a “dispensa” which is a tall cylindrical tube of beer with the centre filled with ice to keep the beer cold, and a spout at the bottom for refills. Each cylinder holds 3 litres ...

The most readily available beers that are not cuc beers are Mayabe and Cacique there is also Bucanero max, the mayabe and cacique are sold in cuban pesos and are not that hard to find, but you have to keep your eyes open. Any restaurant that is a cuban peso eatery will sell them, Mayabe is pretty good a cerveza clara like cristal, Cacique is not to my liking.

There is a great beer called Tinima that I had in Havana it has a very interesting spiced flavor to it, I only found it in one place in havana.

I found a beer called "86 Special Blend" (7.5% alc!) in Havana. I can't remember where it was brewed, but it's strong, kinda reminiscent of Old English.
