Is Baveno touristy?

Hi,

A backstory first: I will have a 2-day layover at Milan area in July (coming in at Malpensa Airport, 10:10am - 10:10pm the following day). I was thinking about going to Lake Como (specifically around Menaggio). However, upon research, I found that it takes almost 3 hours to get there from the airport. That's too far (and I'll be so jetlagged). I eventually found Stresa, which is only a little over an hour from the airport by Alibus.

I read that Stresa is rather touristy and people said Baveno isn't as touristy. Is that true? Also, are there good hiking trails around Baveno (similar to Menaggio)? I am looking to relax in the lake front with some hikings and photography before another red-eye flight. I'm also hoping to experience places that are more "authentic".

Thanks!

Baveno is quieter than Stresa with a smaller selection of shops and restaurants. July is peak season, will find tourists in both resorts. May be interested in my trip report and photographs:-

Enjoy!
