You can order vegetables as individual dishes which is greek style anyway although I am sure some tavernas may do a vegetarian menu

Try Baked Feta - I have on every Greek Island and in Athens. If the menu doesn't mention this - just ask - I have never been refused and convert colleagues.

Gigantes - not baked beans as sometimes stated but giant butter beans in a tomato sauce. Lovely with some bread for dunking. Usually a starter but I am sure you can get it as a main course.

Yemista - stuffed tomatoes or peppers. You need to ask if they contain any meat.

Briam

Various salads

I'm not a vegetarian but in Skala will often opt for vegetarian dishes as they are just so lovely.

Imam ( aubergines, tomato, garlic, onions )

Briam ( like a ratatouille )

and Paspalis does a Vegetarian Moussaka to die for.

Cheese Pies and Spinach pies are also a favourite, and I'm salivating just thinking about them all ! You'll be spoilt for choice

I am a vegetarian who until last year had never been to Greece, I went to Skala and I have to say the food that I ate in the tavernas was the best I have ever eaten in all my holidays abroad. We ate in different tavernas each night and can honestly say I never had a bad meal and the variety was superb and at such reasonable prices.I loved Kefalonia and Skala so much that I returned in May this year and will be holidaying in Kos next week as I am now a Greek convert!
