Boat schedule bangsal harbour

We are heading to Gili T in April and wondering if there are set times the ferries from Bangsal Harbour leave? We are debating flying to Lombok rather than fast ferrying.

Will there be many drivers at the airport to take us the 2 hrs to harbour or would it be better to try arrange one before we go?

Thanks

There are normally plenty of private transport providers at the airport.

Post 6 at tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g664666-i12936-k51… provides the contact details and a very nice review on a local driver Syafii who works the airport. Some of them are good, some of them not so good.

If you want to pre-book one of them then that one might be a good starting point.

There is a public bus service that operates from the Airport to Senggigi, it is in a modern A/C bus and costs Rp25,000/person.

Metered late model A/C taxis also operate from the airport. Leaving the airport in a taxi attracts a Rp17,500 Taxi Services surcharge payable at a booth just outside the terminal doors.

Metered taxis, private operators and shuttle services operate from Senggigi to the Gili island departure points, allow around Rp60,000-75,000 to go from Senggigi to the Gili departure points by taxi, depending upon the exact pick up point in Senggigi district.

Operators such as http://dreamdivers.com/en/transport/ provide pre-booked shuttles from the airport, or Senggigi or just speedboats from the beach departure point.

I think Lombok Reisen http://lombokreisen.com also provides transfers, they are a regular TA contributor on this forum.

You could also stay in the SenggigiMangsit beach area and take a traditional boat off the beach and then keep it for most of the day to look around the islands, that is more expensive but you get a boat trip and can go snorkelling or looking around the islands as well as just getting there.

He is a great guide and is good for either road trips or by boat.

LaMata shuttle provide a morning (pre-booked) shuttle from Senggigi hotels to the Gilis for Rp75,000 per person, so do Perama but they are a little more expensive. Any hotel will book either of these for you.

Have a great trip.

The Wikitravel articles on each of the Individual islands describe the public ferry services. Go to http://wikitravel.org/en/Gili_Islands and then click through to the island of your choice.

Also have a look at the article on Bangsal, you will find a link there.

You shouldn't have any problem getting transport from the airport to Bangsal.

The public ferries leave when they are full. So you are a little at the mercy of how many other tourists are wanting to travel when you do. The public ferries stop running to the Gili in the early to mid- afternoon, after that you have to charter a boat to take you.

As JHerc has mentioned, there are a number of private transfer options also available. They are more expensive but you are paying for the convenience.

When leaving Gili T for mainland Lombok, there are scheduled ferries. See the ticket office on Gili T for details.

Just came back from Gili Trawangan Oct 2012.

We flew Merpati from Malang to Lombok...Note they still refer to it as Mataram but actually fly to Praya which is further away from the North.

We knew that the Ferry was not an option as we were due at the harbour at 18:00. There were 3 Options.

1 - Chance it and arrange as we got there.

2 - Arrange with Eko Mangsit

3 - Arrange with Hotel (Big Bubble)

Merpati as usual was late by 3 hours.

We did not chance it and was quoted 350,000 for private speed boat + 50,000(after dark fee) from Teluk Nare and to jump in a taxi from the airport by the hotel.

The Airport Desk and most taxis outside quoted 350,000, most did not speak english...one driver who did managed to negociate on 250,000.

Note the taxi took 2.5 hours as there are miles of major roadworks around Sengigi...leave ample time when arranging your boat.

The boat rate is pretty flat, everyone charges the same for the 15min transfer to Tarwangan.

Eko Mangsit quoted 350,000 for private speed boat from Teluk Nare and 400,000 for taxi and his guidance.

Using a guide or doing it yourself is a matter of confidence and safety...Once past Sengigi, the roads are dark, there are no settlement and Teluk Nare is a very quite bay, merely a jetee with a closed unlit building when we got there at 22:00. Fortunately there was a dozen stranded tourist hanging around and our friendly taxi driver hung around with us. At no moment did we feel threatened, but I imagine it can be a pretty deserted area.

Being 3 hours late our boat was obviously not waiting anymore, but having booked with Big Bubble the Manager, Steph, reassured us that they were on their way...it does help to have a mobile in those places.

Hi EYANUK, it sounds like you had an eventful and interesting arrival.

I should clarify a couple of minor details.

Eko uses a private car for transfers and guided outings on the island, the vehicle is normally a late model Diahatsu Xenia, or if especialy requested a Toyota Innova may be available.

So if he quoted Rp400,000 that woud have been a personalised meet and greet at the airport with a transfer in (most likely) a late model Diahatsu Xenia.

They are more spacious than a taxi and he is there not just to give a warm greeting to the island but also to ensure you are taken care of and do not end up in a distant location in the middle of the night with hardly any people around, very few of which (if any) will be able to communicate effectively with you.

The staff at the Taxi Service Counter appear to have behaved in a highly misleading manner, but then again maybe they were actually looking after you due to a concern about your late arrival at Teluk Nare..

To journey to Teluk Nare (this is where that speedboat you mentioned would have departed from) required a payment of a Taxi Service Charge of Rp17,500 for which they issue a voucher, and allocate a taxi number from those waiting at the rank.

The taxi price is NOT negotiable, the taxis all use a meter.

The metered charge from Bandara Internasional Lombok (the airport) to Teluk Nare should be approximately Rp200,000 on the meter (maybe a little less depending upon traffic and route used), and around Rp140,000 to central Senggigi township.

I suspect you may have instead been diverted to a private car service.

To be fair to them they may have done this to ensure you had someone who would see you through to a boat transfer or a place to sleep over, or they may have just been seeking an ad-hoc commission from one of the drivers.

I tend to think they might have understood your potential predicament and offered a solution to ensure you were looked after.

It sounds like you were in good hands with Big Bubble.

You are quite correct, it is highly advisable to travel armed with a cellphone, local SIM, sufficient call credits and the contact name of your accommodation, the person providing your transfer (road and or boat) and the actual boat operators name and cellphone number if possible.

If you flight is delayed do contact the people in Lombok, as can be imagined waiting 3 extra hours for a guest to show up is a bit of an endurance test, especially if there is no communication from them.

Merpati is notorious for this sort of delay.

Teluk Nare and Teluk Kodek could be a pretty lonely and dark place at 22:00 if a driver just dropped you off there. It sounds like your driver felt suitably obliged to look out for you.

BTY, if the vehicle was not clearly marked as a taxi with an illuminated sign on the roof, yellow number plates and was not waiting in the taxi rank with the other taxis then it was a private car transfer.

I so then Rp250,000 was very a good price, especially if it was late at night and if he stayed with you to ensure you were looked after at Teluk Nare.

Really the best thing to do in that sort of situation may be to seek out some accommodation on the main island as night time transfers have some potential issues.
