Christmas in Gran Canaria

Just booked flights on a whim! for 1 week 25 Dec - 1 Jan - we are a 50 plus couple - don't like hotels - usually go for a villa with a pool - not sure which resort we should be looking at - we like peace and quiet - HATE "british bars!" etc but need to be within walking distance of shops and quiet bars - anyone any ideas?

Think Puerto Mogan should suit unless you want more of the city - Las Palmas. Weather not so good in the north but you'd get shops, bars etc

Totally agree with first review - we just got back on Monday from first time staying in Puerto Mogan and fell in love with everything about it - stayed in Cordial Mogan Valle Apartments and couldn't fault them in anyway - about a ten minute stroll down to beach on the left of you and around to the marina on your right - can't put into enough words how lovely quiet and relaxing it is - we are off this time to Lanzarote for New Year which we are really excited about but envy you if you get to Puerto Mogan

Thanks for this - really useful - coincidentally, we spent last new year in Lanzarote!

We stayed in La Nazaret - quiet little village which suited us

A truly beautiful island - so much open space to see - as you will already know a moonlike landscape - a car is a must - volcano trip is well worth a visit.

Hi, We are a couple the same as you - dont like noisy Brits abroad etc etc. Not that we are boring though!!

So, reading all the wonderful posts regarding Puerto Mogan and Cordial Mogan apartments - we have just booked for a week - flying out 27th December.

Hubby and I looking forward to our first trip to GC and also this hotel/apartment complex.

Hi

We too are flying out on the 25th December and will be staying in puerto de Mogan. I too would highly recommend this resort for peace and quite and some lovely restaurants to choose in and around the resort.

Although i have not stayed in the Cordial Valle Apartments only the Hotel next door they do look lovely from the pictures and we have met people in mogan who enjoy staying here and using the facilities they offer.

If you are looking for swimming pools and spa facility then this would be perfect for you.

There are loads of private rentals advertised on the internet, but they do get booked up quickly at Christmas and New Year as this is a very busy period in GC hence why the prices are high.

I can recommend la puntilla apartments which are situated on the first row along the beach front if you require a clean and spacious apartment without swimming pool. lapuntilla.com is there website and we stayed here about 5 years ago and enjoyed being close to the beach and reasonable priced.

Also look on Secret destinations.com they have apartments with availability over the christmas period and also some rural accomodation up in the valley.

Wherever you stay in GC i hope you have a great time.
