Cheap minimum BlackJack bets, which casinos?

We are considering Macau, we like casinos, but are worried re being able to afford them, what are the minimum bets are there lower end casinos?

Also, are there cheap good places to stay?

Thanks

Does the MGM have HK$10-20 roulette tables? I have not seen these before at the MGM but would be very interested if this is the case. Have visitors coming soon that are regulars to Vegas but quite intimidated by the high minimum bets here in Macau. Even the HK$100 tables will be more suitable for them.

I remember when we could bet US$0.25 (quarter) roulette minimum bets on the Biloxi river boats, those were fun nights... Spent 4-5 hours at the table, throwing down a stupid number of quarter chips, just having fun. We'd win big and be up or lose everything and be down a cool US$40.. LOL... What different days to what we have in Macau today!!!

We tried the MGM in January but it was so smoky inside that before we could even find a table to sit at, my eyes were beginning to tear and feel dry so we had to bail and return to the Wynn casino... Didn't recall seeing particularly low minimum bet tables but then again, it was CNY so perhaps they weren't encouraging you to bet small on the occasion. ;-) Might have another look there next week.

We read that the Lisboa has $100 minimum blackjack tables. We did not know there is a difference between the Old Lisboa and the Grand Lisboa. We ended up in the Grand Lisboa and only found out we should have tried the other one after we left Macau.

The Grand Lisboa had some $200 minimum tables, which was an improvement on the $300 minimum you find in all the new Casinos on the Cotai Strip (the other island).

The Grand Lisboa casino stretches over 4 floors. It is large and smoky, except on the ground floor which was smoke free. The casino was relatively crowded compared to the casinos we saw on the strip, and like everywhere on Macau the main game is Baccarat, a 50-50 game which requires no skill.

We played a $200 minimum blackjack table. Like all casinos in Macau the used cards are constantly recycled in a shuffling machine which makes counting cards pointless. Nevertheless, my old habit of counting cards wouldn't go away.

I was surprised how quickly they took the entire HKD 5000 off us. Normally it should have lasted much longer. I was playing by the book and would have expected it to last with a small profit or loss, for more than the one or two hours we were in there. However in less than 2 hours it was gone. At HKD200 a hand, that means the dealer won 25 times more often than we did.

I guess the dealer got really lucky because there seemed to be loads of low cards, 2,3, 4 and 6 coming out which hurt the players and favoured the dealer. (Low cards favour the dealer, because it means she will bust less often - she will make 17 to 21 more often). I can't tell you how many times the dealer's first card was a 2 to 6 which made me stand on 12 or above, only to find the dealer would still get 17 or better.

We had better luck on the strip where a smaller stack of HKD3000 lasted longer at the $300 minimum tables.

All in all I found the minimums were so high that it spoiled the holiday. I remember when the minimums used to be $100, and you could play for longer.

On the other hand, if you per-book a package holiday in Macau it's pretty good value, but that value reduces if you end up losing more due to high minimums.

sorry your luck didn't hold out too well.

I play at the HKD 100 tables and I stop loss at HKD1,000 most of the time.

If I do win, I stop loss at every HKD 1000 I make. So if I make HKD 1,500, and I started losing again back down to HKD 1000, I stop.

If I play at HKD 200 tables I stop loss at HKD 2,000

So far, I seem to win more than I lose.

Been to Macau twice in past 2 months to play Blackjack. Most of the 'major' Casinos now have only minimum 300 HKD BJ; and some only 500 HKD and above.

Also had detailed communications with the following Casinos to clarify their Blackjack Rules:

VENETIAN; GALAXY; STARWORLD, GRAND LISBOA, WYNN*; MGM"

All of the following Casinos use the same Blackjack Rules (except where noted): CSM/6-deck (Continuous Shuffle Machine); DAS (Double after splits allowed); Split Pairs up to 4 hands*; Lose only original Bet after Dealer BJ; Dealer Stands on all 17's; ES10 (Early Surrender allowed before Dealer checks for BJ, except Dealer Ace).**

*WYNN and MGM also permit Re-Splitting of Aces up to 4 hands.

** Caution: Casinos differ on procedure as to timing/method of player Surrender -- some Casinos require this to be done prior to any player at the table being dealt additional cards; while others require it to be done at your turn. Ask their Rule; or best to simply signal surrender immediately to ensure not missed.

Note Also: All Casinos above (except Galaxy) serve complimentary alcoholic beverages to table players.

Finally, special note on City of Dreams Casino -- same rules as above (and service of alcholic beverages including very good Austrialian Wine); EXCEPT only permit Players to Split Pairs up to 3 hands. However, per my suggestion, the Director of Operations is currently reconsidering rule with Exec. Mgt.
