Macau 1 day trip brief review - 28 Apr

Finally have time to do a write up on macau~

Reached sheung wan ferry terminal early in the morning at 7am.

There were no queues at the turbojet counter (Level 3), also there is still available ferry seats for the next few closest ferry timings.

While on our way up the escalator to level 3, i saw maxim dimsum at B1 already opened for business. At level 3, there are also food stall serving breakfast, quite alot of selection at reasonable prices. (Egg and toast, if you like something heavier, they also have noodles, rice etc.)

I already booked our tickets online, our ferry are at 930am. By the time we finished breakfast, it is only around 820am. We tried to queue at the reserved passenger queue, but no luck to get on the earlier timing ferry.

(To explain this : each different ferry timing are at a different gate. you can check the big TV screen just behind the customer service counter in the middle of the waiting area. If you have a later ferry timing ticket, but would like to board the ferry due to early arrival at the ferry terminal, you can try our luck to go to the respective gate number, there will be a "reserved passenger queue" go there and stand to queue up. The ferry normally have extra seats, so far what i saw is, if there is about 10 persons infront of you, continue to queue you will have a chance. if you are the 20th passenger in the queue, may not get a chance to board the ferry)

finally we reach macau at around 1030am, not much queue at the immigration.

at the macau ferry terminal, cross the road to get to the free shuttle bus service.

lots of free shuttles to different hotels. we took the venetian shuttle, what really impress me is they even have free wifi on the bus. Cool!

Venetian is worth visiting, to take sometime to explore the interior of the hotel, and also gamble? haha .

After that we visit City of dreams(COD) that is just withthin walking distance and took a cab to taipa old square for lunch. checked with the hotel staff we can actually take a shuttle from COD to galaxy hotel. from galaxy there is a free shuttle to taipa old square.

Went to try the pork chop bun at tai lok lei. Their famous pork chop bun only starts selling at 2pm. We were early, but they do have other selections of pork chop bun available, and they are tasty as well ~ Also tried the curry fishball. Yummy!

We explored the area nearby, there are some bakery shops and many cafe available, mostly have pork chop bun in their menu.

We got attracted to the beautiful exterior of galaxy hotel and walked towards its direction, galaxy hotel is just opposite the road, there is some construction going on, but we were able to walk through a small "opening" in the middle which leads we to cross the road and get to galaxy hotel (less than 10mins walk) Galaxy hotel is beautiful as well, its my first time visiting it, they have different themed lobby, we explored the diamond lobby.

Wow, am impressed with the decorations, they also have models dressed in costumes for phototaking. I think this hotel is new, saw a floor plan that some part of the hotel is still under construction / expanding.

After that we took a cab to St paul ruins. The cab could not stop there, he drop us somewhere near, we got to do a few mins walk passing through senado square.

while passing through senado sq., there is lots of shops and food stall, also seen many branches for famous koi kei bakery, there will be staff sending outside the stall with free samples in hand. We also passed by domingo chruch and lou kau mansion on the way.

the macau museum and fortress is just nearby, st paul ruins and can also make use of the escalator in the macau museum to get up to the fortress.

after that we back tracked to lou kau mansion, just need less than 10mins to visit as most of the area are sealed up, but its a good visit to get a brief idea how the well-off people lived in the past. I've also learnt something from the visit. Was wondering why the houses leaves an open area right in the middle of the house, dividing the mansion to 3 parts. Later to realise, in the past there is no electricity. They have to leave the middle open to have the sunlight to come in to bright up the area. Brillant.

also visit a small temple, i think it is Ne Zha temple (sorry i cant remember.) its a very small temple with a small door to go in along the main street in senado. The interior is really old, and i saw at the side there is this old type of staircase with a round opening to go up to the 2nd floor (which i normally only get to see in the tv), definately worth a visit.

After that we went to lisboa to try our luck at the casino and visit Wynn hotel.

The fountain show just outside the entrance is every 15mins. The fortune tree is every 30mins. Note there is 2 different show alternating for the fortune tree. (do stay for another 30mins to watch the next one!)

This ends our day in macau! My parents visited macau once 30 years ago, and they are really impressed on how macau have changed / developed.

This is my second time visiting macau and its still very enjoyable.

will definately visit again, and will probably spend more days in macau next time :)

oh ya, remember to fill up the immigration HK arrival form upon going back to hongkong terminal before queuing up to get your passport checked~

Nice trip report.

>>>also visit a small temple, i think it is Ne Zha temple (sorry i cant remember.) its a very small temple with a small door to go in along the main street in senado<<<<

You are thinking about Sam Kai Vui Kun Temple (see link)

>>>will definately visit again, and will probably spend more days in macau next time :)<<<

When you visit next time, try some of the quieter and more attractive areas of the city that most tourists avoid. The St. Lazarus District to Lou Lim Ieok Garden is a gem and even the World Heritage area between St. Augustine Square and A-Ma Temple is very pleasant, has great attractions and even some old Art Deco buildings that very few manage to see in Macau.

Thanks again for the nice report.
