Welcome to the Macau forum.

Of course NYE is celebrated here.... There will be fireworks on the Sai Van Lake, the Casinos will have massive parties and celebrations, the restaurants will be booked up, the squares and gardens highly decorated.

For what to do in Macau, see the Top Question [Must See/Do in Macau] on the right hand side of this forum page. Good luck with your research and hope you enjoy Macau.

Starting point has to be how old are you and what are you looking for.

With its Portuguese Catholic tradition Christmas and New Year is big in Macau. Add a a very sizeable Philippines Catholic working group and Macau can get a quite European festive feel. Thankfully it does not begin in August like it does in The Philippines.

But ---- the vast majority of visitors over this Christian (Pagan?) festive period are still Chinese.

Outdoors there are huge gatherings and very Chinese entertainment spectacles - notably the front of The Grand Lisboa. There is usually a fireworks display at Macau Tower. The crowds are enormous.

If you want something more relaxed book early at one of the many fantastic Macau restaurants or small number of upscale cocktail venues (Sky 21 at AIA, Altira, etc) that have panoramic views.

US - We will be bar hopping ending up just after the gong at D2 LOL. Probably via Lions Bar and watching the countdown outside The Grand Lisboa - experiencing a Chinese celebration of The Western New Year is surreal - pick up a few 1/2 bottles of Champagne in a local supermarket (US$25 for Moet) and ----experience something very unique

Be warned it can be cool - 13 to 15c at night is normal. But 6-8 crops up occasionally.
