Tuk tuk cost

Hi, what should a tuk tuk cost from Cinnamon Lodge to Sigiriya with wait time? We were asked 2000 LKR. Thanks.

Hi there,

A tuktuk generally can use B294 byroad (15 km) while a car would have to use main road costing 25 km with detour. 30 km @ Rs 35 (and Rs 50 for first km) would be Rs 1,000 so it seems they ask quite a high margin and/or quite a lot for the wait time. I'd simply try to book a tuktuk one-way and bargain that price to maybe Rs 600, and find another one for the return. However as mentioned often before in the forum, tuktuks often try to charge outrageous prices to tourists and bargaining down takes more effort than for cab prices....

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

@ErikdR Thanks for that! I managed to get it down to 1500 with wait time. We have been in Sri Lanka now for a few days after travelling India for two months and are still trying to get this tuktuk thing here. We thought tuktuk charges for foreigners in India were outrageous. Little did we know that the same games, albeit even more expensive, were found here. SAARC countries just don't seem to want to make it easy for independent travellers.
