If you are actually wanting to do a day trip, there are day excursion boats from Kos Town as well as the Dodekanisos Seaways catamaran. You can buy tickets on the harbourside. I don't know what the fares are this year but hopefully someone else will Some include a visit to the island of Pserimos, and some don't.

There's also a ferry service from Mastichari to Kalymnos with seevral crossings a day, and a bus service between Kos Town and Mastichari.

Thanks Andy - Went to Kos some years ago and did the excursion boat thing then so just fancied a more direct sail - prices just seem a bit steep at around €37 for a 45 minute sail!

Hi

Ferry from Mastihari are more frequent. Last year 6 euros each way. That way you could get the early morning and late evening ferry.

Thanks for the advice - Also considering a night on Kalymnos returning next day, any recommendations for a simple room for two early September? How easy to do this on Kalymnos without booking in advance?

Hi

Its easy to book in advance, and that way you know you have somewhere to go to, rather than wandering around. Have a look at the different villages on Kalymnos to stay at, or Pothia the main town were you get the ferry, but Pothia is busy and noisy.

Kalymnos is more expensive for accommodation than Kos but we managed to book a hotel in Kantouni - Hotel Ellies (sory spelling) for 35 euro for both of us for 2 nights. In my opinion Kantouni Beach Hotel is the best but at 40 euro plus per night it was too much for us - its only a 2 minute walk anyway from the Ellies. The Kantouni is the best place to see the sunset. Enjoy - were there beginning of September - might see you!! Amanda and Peter Keane
