Stoupa

I'm posting this review again due to it being removed and I haven't heard any news about free speech or opinions being taken away either in Greece or the UK.

Stoupa has disappointed me slightly but Kalamata is a beautiful place but I think Stoupa - in my humble opinion is too British for me because this week the majority are British and a large majority are over 65.

Whilst I do not think this is a problem that warrants any discussion I just wish I had known this before I came here but despite reading many reviews on here and other forums I was not aware of this.

I love everything about Greece but I just prefer my holiday destinations to appeal to a wider variety of people.

No I do not wish to holiday in faliraki or malia as previous comments,

Nor do I have a problem with older people on holiday

I just enjoy a variety of ages and cultures and that is my choice.

My point about Faliraki is the young people pick there and the older clientele people prefer Stoupa but your post inferred to me that us old people or British were not welcome to share the beach with you, Then after picking the wrong place it became our fault for not telling you

I just typed in 'Stoupa British' in the search box and got these threads

tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g666399-i12626-k…

tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g666399-i12626-k…

The 'Stoupa too quiet' thread should have told you all, I am an oldie happy to sit on the beach with any age or nationality but as pointed out when I was there, we had a mixture of all ages on the beach.

There is a campsite behind the beach which can get full as the season goes on and am sure the pensioners don't stay there. I think perhaps some of the places you like are the busy resorts were the big tour companies flying in from lots of countries. We are all different, we prefer the quieter resorts. I thought Parga was the most scenic place and a friend who likes Stoupa asked if I knew of an alternative for a change, I recommended Parga. She went with her young kids and went on the Valtos beach twice and was hassled all afternoon by beach hawkers. I was really annoyed when she told me, as I hadn't experienced it. So I posted about it

You may have gone too early

PS I didn't delete you post

< My point about Faliraki is the young people pick there and the older clientele people prefer Stoupa >

Delboy, that is just daft! Many, many young people as well as older ones would run a mile from raucous places like Faliraki and Malia; and many older people would not like Stoupa.

We are in our 60s and have been visiting Greece since the 1980s. We visited Stoupa for a day last September and didn't like it, not because it is too quiet but because it is not quiet enough!! It is very much a package resort with a beach full of sunbeds, everyone speaking English and no real Greek atmosphere. We look for destinations that have retained their Greek atmosphere and are not full of other Brits. In the Mani, we would recommend Ag Nikolaos and Kardamyli.

Stoupa is just not our style, but it clearly does suit many others and I respect that. You clearly love Stoupa and I wish you many happy holidays there. But please accept that others of us have the right not to like it. It is as useful for people to see reviews from those who have NOT liked a place as it is to read positive reviews, so it is a shame to attack someone for just expressing her genuine opinion.

Just trying to say a lot of the young do go to those places and we wouldn't Bristolians, the post originally came over to me as not happy with older people or British, I was writing my reply unaware of the post ahead of me and hadnt seen it until I posted mine. Funny they had thought the same as me from their reply but I do try to be civil. I can respect anybody's opinion on a place but don't have a go at us for being there or not telling them the facts on here.

I can honestly see why some people do not like Stoupa, its not for everyone. I do holiday in other places during the year which are all completely different, but I have a soft spot for Stoupa. I probably will not be going in 2014 because of the price rise, its just got ridiculous. So i will be looking for somewhere else to get my Greek fix.

This is the first tear UN approx 8 years that I have holidays in a package and that is due purely to the fact that I wanted to visit Stoupa after reading the reviews. The last 'busy' resort I visited was with my children who are now all grown up . And that was Tsilivi in Zante. Since then I have read forums and researched places to go because I work hard for my money and like to choose carefully where I go.

This is the first time in ages I have had anything to complain about a holiday and I feel that the information was not given and so I would give it.

As previously said it is my preferences e and I can only go off information found. J would not have chosen Stoupa but would possibly have chosen a neighbouring resort. This is my prerogative as the person who earns my money and chooses where to holiday.

For everyone's info - I loved parga, agios gordios in Corfu, Corfu town is amazing- very Venetian, kefalonia- not keen on lassi but loved argostoli, Easter in ag nic n Crete was stunning, not keen on skiathos, loved halkidiki - several resorts, I love Santorini, and many other places so no set pattern but definately a grecophile!

If I am disappointed in Stoupa - so what if you love it.

I think the discussion has highlighted how places can be completely (clientele etc) different depending on when you visit.

I imagine many older, child free people would chose to visit when temperatures are cooler. Likewise, during school hols (when we visited) its more families and other Europeans (who traditionally holiday End July / August)

As I mentioned in the 'deleted' post that we will be travelling to Stoupa in August and are 53 and 52 respectively. I like peace but some activity and a range of nationalities and ages. We don't spend our time lounging around on the beach all day ( maybe a few hours every other day). The best option for us will be to hire a car and get out and about and see the 'real' Greece. There will always be an element of commercialism when you book via a tour operator and that's ok. We use a place as a base and explore. I appreciate not everyone does.

I loved Parga and Skiathos Town ( we were based at Megali Amos) Loved Lesbos ( based at Anaxos).

I really hope that Stoupa and its surrounding areas lives up to the press and writings. Maybe it is a little too British maybe not. We go in the height of summer so can't foresee it having a hoard of 'older' visitors then when it's peak season. Either way I don't mind.

One person's poison is another's nectar.

Happy holidays to one and all wherever your choice of destination.
