Hi. From Catania firstly you have to reach the port of Milazzo, on the northern side of Sicily. There's a direct bus from Catania airport

www.giuntabus.com

From Milazzo you could take the Ustica Lines hydrofoil or the Siremar ferry to Salina, really I don't know which is better for sea sickness...

The only options, as Vagabonda has said, are either the ferry or they hydrofoil. The hydrofoil ride is shorter than the ferry ride so if you need to minimize your time on the ocean then take the hydrofoil.

Welcome to Sicily Sarah C!

Unfortunately the direct Giuntabus service from Catania's airport to Milazzo's port ends on 30 September.

giuntabus.com/download/giuntabus-orario-2013…

You could take the direct SAIS Autolinee service from Messina to Salina - An Ustica Lines hydrofoil would depart Messina at 13.50, but that's a tight connection.

And if you get seasick, you would much prefer the larger and more stable ferries than hydrofoils.

So perhaps take the combined SAIS Autolinee/Giuntabus Trasporti (not Giuntabus) service from Catania's airport to Milazzo's port.

And then take a Siremar ferry from Milazzo to Salina - Schedules are only posted until 30 September on the Siremar website, but you would find schedules posted on the Ferriesonline booking engine.

The private shuttle "garage delle isole" to Milazzo runs in the winter too. It costs about euro 35,00: www.garagedelleisole.it

Hi sarakka - Hope all is well! :-)

The convenience of a shuttle just can't be beat and Garage delle Isole is reliable.
