Lia Studios

Hi All,

I'm off to the Lia Studios (next to the Finas) in July and am struggling to find any reviews as most seem to be for the Lia Matina down the road.

Has anyone stayed here or can anyone provide any further info on them? Not long to go now, that first Mythos seems so far away though!!

Thanks

Hi

We're in the same position - have booked but are not sure if we've made the right choice - we arrive 4 in the morning on a sunday!

Just a quick line to ask how it was - hope your stay was good.

Best

We stayed at Lia last year and are going back in September. It's quieter than Finas as it doesn't have its own pool or bar, but you can use both at Finas next door. It's up an incline, hence lovely views of the town and bay. It's about 10 minutes walk from the centre of the village but there are tavernas and supermarkets very locally. Our room was pretty basic, the furnishings a little "tired" and the cleaning not brilliant last time we went, but we love Pefkos, like the location of Lia and got a good deal with Olympic again.

Hey ds,

Sorry but have only just seen the post. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay, the rooms were basic and maybe could donwith a bit of a spring clean but were perfectly fine and comfortable. We arrived early Sunday too and could not get aircon until Monday morning, get a fan from the artimis supermarket opposite for a day, cost us a couple of euros for the night plus a refundable deposit.

We used the lia as a base and were at the beach mist days. We would return to the lia and think that it was great value for money all round. You must try the annexis restaurant next to the lia, good views and food, drinks really reasonable, €6.50 for a litre of very drinkable house red!

Enjoy your hols

I posted this information below in June 2009 - the topic was inactive for over 6 months and therefore closed. I'm aware it's 2 years old but just add it in case it is of help to anyone. I've booked for September 2012 and looking forward to going back:-

"June 2009 - My husband and I have just stayed in this accommodation for 2 weeks and found it to be of a very high standard. As stated elsewhere, it has a kettle, and although the kitchen equipment is quite basic, other than a lack of bread board, we had no complaints. The maid (Vassilia) or Vicky is absolutely wonderful and the sheets and towels were changed 3 times per week. Air con is available at 50 Euros per week which I thought was a bit steep because in Crete last Oct we only paid 35 Euros per week. I understand that the properties have recently been refurbished and its the first time in Greece that I ever recall having a shower cubicle (thus avoiding the skating rink on the bathroom floor). The bathroom also has quite a high powered hair dryer.

Although I have reservations about Pefkos (in that it is very commercialised) I would definitely go back to this accom. which I found of a very high standard for the price we paid.

I confess we found Pefkos rather expensive - To Spitaki restaurant was charging about 12 euros for a litre of their house wine which is ridiculous but before long we found the nearby village of Lardos and ate there for half the price (and frankly, much better food). I believe somewhere on here that I read GB of Devizes saying that the Anixis Restaurant was good - I agree with him - it was the best value in Pefkos and the staff there are really friendly too. (Their house wine was approx. 5.80 Euros for a litre which is more like it).

If you hire a car, go to Glystra beach - it is absolutely gorgeous. Prices for sunbeds were 8 euros in Pefkos and 7 euros at Glystra. (2 beds and 1 umbrella). (this was 2009)."

Looking at the prices detailed above, it looks as if it is still good value for money.

Can anyone who has visited Lia studios this year on the Manchester flight, tell me if you are able to pay a fee to the owner and keep your room on ? I never book night flights but Olympic (the little sweethearts) have altered our flight times and we wont be picked up until later in the day. Therefore, in order to make use of our last day I was hoping to ask to extend our room.

If not then I'll just find somewhere else for that last day. We've going in September.

Hi,

Yes you can keep your room. Just speak with the cleaner and she will sort it for you. I can't remember the cost but was definitely worth it.

Enjoy!

Anyone got any advice on easy things to take that are not supplied in the room at Lia Studios?

ie is there enough basic cutlery and drinking equipment.

Also heard that the beds are pretty basic. Was thinking of taking a inflatable pillow?

Finally been reading various reviews of the pool at Finas about 50/50 saying good/bad?

UPDATE having just returned from Lia Studios. I am very sorry to say that standards have really dropped at this accommodation. The first thing I did when I arrived 2 weeks ago was clean all the cutlery/crockery and various areas in the studio.

Please note, I am not obsessional with cleaning but this accommodation was nowhere near as clean as when we visited 3 years ago and Vassilia was doing maid duties - she was spotless. We were in the old block which is the one higher up the hill. For reasons that are beyond me, the lower block studios each had washing racks. We (and the other ground floor studios) just had a washing line which in our case was strategically placed to ensure that the overnight watering system for the garden thoroughly soaked out washing/towels. I always take a small washing line and pegs and soon sorted this out but it just seems extremely unfair that the crummier studios have no washing racks.

Bedding - I have never, in over 30 years of visiting Greece had my bedding changed so little AND when the bottom sheet was changed, the top one was not, it was just refolded to appear as if it was a fresh sheet. However, I have a keen sense of smell and wear a distinctive perfume which I caught drift of as I was remaking the bed (which was like a hammock). I decided thereafter to set a trap and placed a very small amount of pale nail varnish inside the label of the upper sheet and sure enough when the bottom sheet was changed, once more the top was was not. This means that in 14 days I had one top sheet which is totally unacceptable. We also had only 1 foot towel/bathroom mat for the fortnight which I finished up washing myself twice. We had towels changed twice which again in 2 weeks is utterly appalling.

There could be a variety of reasons for this behaviour - it might be that Olympic are paying less than before and the owner briefs the maid to try and manage with less bedding a towels - for what it's worth the maid seemed a nice person but it may also be the case that she is only paid for a couple of hours whereas to give the rooms the thorough clean they need at least once a week she needs to be there longer. After several of us complained I did notice someone else came to assist her with the cleaning so it may not be the maids fault. The bins were, however, emptied almost every day which is what I would expect. I don't expect the room to be cleaned every single day, just the bins emptied. Whatever the case, I do not come on holiday to clean before I can enjoy. For information the air con cost 90 euros for 2 weeks. I'm afraid we wont be going back to this accommodation.
