Changing money

Could anybody please tell me whether it is better to change money - at the airport or at the hotel. Do you have enough time to change it at the airport?

Also, are there still lots of mozzies about?

Thank you.

Either or. Theres very little differance in exchange rate between the 2. The is a money exchange at the Melia Cayo Santa Maria, next door to you where most of MLD guests exchange. As for the airport most times you have time. Have 1 person wait for the bags, the other go exchange your money. Just do a small amount. Make sure you count it before you leave the counter and get a receipt. This goes for excvhanging at the resort as well. Have a great trip. You'll love the beach.

Melia las dunas has it's own money exchange in the lobby.

As for mossies bring some sort of spray for the evenings, not really bad in May but some spray is required.

Tip for you ... the q's for the bank at MLD are sometimes long,, they will sometimes change at reception.

When we flew into Santa Clara from Canada, we stopped in Varadero first - there was enough of a stopover there (we had to disembark the plane) that we got a chance to do our currency exchange in the secured area at the airport.

Thank you all for your replies regarding exchanging currency. We are well stocked up with mossie spray but as Thomas Cook only allow 15kg baggage allowance will struggle to fit everything in!

Hello Holabi,

re:your question about baggage allowance; you do not need much stuff. We found when we went down, we did not wear half our clothing.

If you ensure that all tops and all slacks " go " together, you will have an adequate amount of outfits. Throw in a couple of swimsuits and a pair of sandals, and away you go.

And anyway, how many people will you know and do you have to impress them?
