haven't been to this hotel in many years and wondered if it the same as it ever was? Does it still have the little sauna room? does it have another pool? We noticed cockroaches flying near the pool last year - does the hotel still suffer from pesky creatures ?

The location is lovely, but need to balance it out with good living space too! Grateful for any advice!

So am I Deebob, I never saw a sauna room whilst there, never seen any flying cockroaches ( American cockroaches are wingless, ior this is what I always thought) ever whilst in Cuba and also one pool. I wouldn't have a clue where they would put another even if they could.

To answer the question about the resort being the same as it was.

It depends on how far back you want to go.

The original hotel was called "Villa Vagia". It, and the Cojimar were the first to be built. First year it was open was 1996-97. The Cojimar was an exclusive Italian Resort.

Those were the days of total seclusion! Pilar Beach was Insane!

The Sol's main structure of rooms and building is the same. There was no beach grill and stage area. No Cubanito bar either.

Riu took over after a couple years. "Riu Villa Vagia" They added a few things like better chairs in the bars and Buffet etc.

Then Melia stepped in ,and again a few upgrades were done.

We booked this resort totally by chance back in 97, and were glad we did. We've been back every year since, along with checking out other parts of Cuba.

I know, we are suffering from a Terminal affliction. lol

Hope everything works out for you,

Salud!

Taxi is about 15 - 20mins. Shuttle bus, depends on how many stops at other resorts. Could be 35mins. Plus or Minus!
