Personally I prefer Zivania which is the local equivalent of Ouzo

Actually Zivania is nothing like Ouzo assuming it's the aniseed type taste you're after. It just happens to be the local brew in Cyprus that's where the similarity ends.........personally I find it too strong, I've "lost" some whole days due it !

Try Bootleggers off licence as there's not much they don't do in the Protaras shop

Paul LFC why did you recommend I drink

Zivania instead of Ouzo it is nothing like Ouzo

It is the local firewater. I like Ouzo because it tastes like Pernod.

You are correct westie girl , zivania is the local firewater , it's a very strong drink made from the left over pressed grapes , it's very very strong and will burn the back of your throat . I bought some the last time I was in Cyprus and have never touched it as its the devils brew ...lol

Why Paul lfc compared it to ouzo I don't know , oh well .

Have a good holiday and go easy on the ouzo .

In Pernera, there's a shop called Bootlegger. It's on the road where Windmills Hotel is, you follow the road up the hill and keep going (you'll pass a Chinese Restaurant on the corner) and it's a little further up on the right hand side. It sells lots of alcohol, juices, ice creams, tobacco products, etc. They are probably the cheapest shop local to Pernera (although not sure about places like this in the centre of Protaras). Local wines and spirits are best - I'd recommend anything of the Keo variety!

As mentioned in my post above you don't need to travel to Pernera for Bootleggers any longer as they have a shop in every resort including Protaras and Ayia Napa (x2)
