Trains from Athens to Kalamata?

Hi, does anyone know if it's possible to get a train between Athens and Kalamata? I've been to the Greek rail company's website but Kalamata didn't come up as a destination, is there a station anywhere near there?! Thanks

No trains, but there is an excellent express bus service.

As Heimdall says excellent bus service from Athens Kiffisos bus terminal, with express, fast and normal services , all the same price €22.

Almost all train services in the Peloponnese were cancelled around two years ago as part of the economic crackdown.

Aegean Air have a domestic flight (45 minutes) between Athens Airport and Kalamata during the high season. Can't remember whether it's two or three times a week, check their web site for the schedule.

Thanks very much, will do that. Yes, I wondered if the train services had been stopped due to the economic crisis

Dear All

1) Can anyone help guide us as to how to get to Kalogria 240 24 from Athens city center? Can we take the train? Express Bus Service? We are travelling with kids, so looking for feasible way of getting to Kalogria.

2) Or should we take an express bus from Athens to Kalamata, then rent a car from Kalamata to Kalogria? Does it make sense to have a car to drive about in Kalogria or is everything within walking distance? We have no idea how big/small is the town of Kalogria ... help?!

2) For our return trip, we'd need to overnight at a reasonable, clean, convenient place with breakfast, to catch our flight out of Athens. Any recommendation as to where to stay?

Kalogria is not a town, it is part of Stoupa. The only options to get there are by bus or drive yourself.

To get there you can get the bus to Kalamata from Kifissos bus station in Athens. Where will you be starting from, a hotel, the airport?

One bus a day continues to Stoupa, but it would be best to rent a car to explore the area, you won't need it to get around Stoupa. Where are you staying in Stoupa?
