daily ticketing

Hi,

Will be in Tokyo between 9-Sept-14 to 14-Sept-14. plan to go to Hakone and stay one night there. The rest will be in Tokyo. Just wondering what daily traffic ticketing we should look for to cover us moving around Tokyo

Within Tokyo, daily passes usually won't save you money as single rides aren't very expensive. Assuming you are flying into Haneda Airport based on your other post, there are some packaged deals only available at HND that could make sense:

If you take the limobus, then the Tokyo Metro daily pass is heavily discounted:

The Tokyo 3-day Subway Ticket at 1,500 Yen is worthwhile if you go around enough. However, it must be used on 3 consecutive days so given your day trip plans, it might not make sense for you. The 1 and 2-day versions won't give you much, if any savings.

You can always just opt for Suica or Pasmo which are stored value cards. They don't save you any money but give you plenty of convenience. You won't have to use ticket machines for local train travels regardless of what company you use.

Hakone Free Pass for Hakone travel:

Tobu Pass for Nikko visit:

If you want to take Shinkansen to Nikko instead of Tobu trains (more expensive though), get the JR Kanto Area Pass. It's good for 3 consecutive days so you can also plan to use it for Narita Express (assuming you depart from NRT airport) on your last day:
