Cap Juluca - so tired?

To all who refer to CJ's rooms as "tired" - and this word is used so often -, what specifically bothered you?

We have been there quite a few times, the Guish years, and are considering a return visit with child.

Price point versus value perhaps?

Thanks for any details....

Yes, price point for value and quality made it seem tired to me. Specific problems with our room: a few holes in the sheets, exposed plumbing fixtures in need of attention (broken handle on bath, caulking issues, drywall repair near where they meet the wall, etc.), the bathroom wasn’t exceptionally clean (on check-in there were a few hairs on the floor especially near the toilet), a large rip/tear in the solarium lounger, and we had an ant problem in the beginning of our stay (there has since been a comprehensive online post about ants and the CJ management should be on top of it by now). Overall our room could use a renovation - or at the very least a deep cleaning - to make things shine again and a coat of paint would do wonders to cover wall smudges/nicks that occur from guest use over time.

That said, despite these inconsistencies and some service hiccups (both of which would normally make us never return), the beautiful beach is so stunning that we plan to go back.

Thanks for your reply. Seems that those issues should be easy to avoid through routine maintenance. I recall now the extensive ant discussion! We did not like the room with the mini bar set-up outside - that was our ant experience and we requested a move. First trip there (96) was the best - jr suite - it really set the standard against which we compared every return visit. But to CJ's credit, they were (used to be) very responsive and timely to address room problems. Of course, the rates are higher now too so I get it.

Yep, the beach/access to it is the main draw for sure and there is a demographic that will always pay for it but......

It looks pretty much the same except for a bit of tiredness which is no big deal. Staff is friendly and helpful. Maunday's Bay beach is deadly gorgeous and the biggest drawing card. Views from the rooms through those arches to St. Martin are stunning, and they still remain the most romantic accommodations in AXA, if not the newest, in my opinion.
