B&B or half board?

We're going to cala galdana in a couple of weeks and we are deciding whether to book half board or just B&B at sol gavilanes. We were worried with the exchange rate that it may work out alot more expensive to eat out every night as well as lunch time. Can anyone offer advice? we're not burgers and chips people we like to try local :-) Thanks for any help

Best way to eat on the island is to have a big lunch and eat like the menorquians do by having a Menu Del Día (menu of the day). You can have a 3 course meal, with wine/water at most restaurants for a set price, ranging from 8€ up to about 16€. Lots of places have now started to offer a Menu of the Night (Menu del Noche), which will be the same theory, just a bit more expensive. Then it would be tapas in the evening.

Alternatively, if you went for B&B, you could fill up at breakfast and then just snack on a lovely baguette and some cheese and ham from the supermarket, leaving you open to choose from lots of places to eat in the evening and not being stuck for dinner in the hotel every night.

Hope this helps,

Raff

Thanks Raff,

we're quite big eaters, I like the sound of the Menu Del Dia and then a menu del Noche later although it could work out quite expensive :-)

Do you know if you can swap the evening meal for lunch at sol gavilanes, we've stayed in acouple of hotels in Lanzarote that gave that option, do they do this in Menorca?

I´m afraid I don´t know the answer to that question, might be an idea to email the hotel directly

When we have compared the prices before, its not much more to have hb rather than bb. The food at the Sol Gavilanes is very varied and they have diffrerent themed nights, a different enormous paella every night and lots of fresh meat and fish that they cook in front of you on the grill. In the downstairs restaurant (inside) there is also an Italian corner, which does a pizza buffet and will cook pasta to order with whatever sauce, topping you would like. I dont think you can go wrong with this as recently we were s/c and there were not many meals for four that cost less than 60-70 euros and that was at the beach bars!

As the price difference is not that much, you could try a few nights out eating for a change.
