Is there a way you can do a self guided tour at a cheaper price? I will be 34 weeks pregnant and we have a 2 year old child as well, so we would prefer to do things at our own pace. is this an option at all?

No this not an option. You must take a guided tour and there are no cheaper prices.

Whether you make your own way by private car to the Shires' Rest (tour origination) or whether you get a bus tour from Matamata or another town you'll be herded into a bus and driven the few kilometres to Hobbiton itself and then escorted around by a tour guide.

It isn't a difficult walk for either a two year old or a pregnant woman.

Hi,

If you are concerned about walking, you can ask them to book you a golf car at no extra cost. Golf car will follow the guide. I had injured my leg in NZ, so we asked alternative for walking. By the way you should definitely do, it was awesome.
