What they have in Bandhavgarh is a "tiger-show" on elephant back. The forest department has some elephants which are sent out to the forests in the morning for their mahouts to look for tigers. If the elephants or any other vehicle in the park spots a tiger, and if the authorities feel the tiger is resting and will not move much, then they offer an on-the-spot tiger show on elephant back to the toursits who are already in the forest. The tourists come by jeep to a specific point in the road, from there they board elephants, and then they go into the forest on elephant backk, see the tigers and return. This sort of thing cannot be booked in advance. All the drivers of the safari jeeps know about this tiger show and they will be in contact with the booking centre of the park to give you this chance.

Hi Deepa Mam,

Specifically,Tiger shows stand discontinued since the last 2 - 3 yrs in both BTR & KTR.

How ever, Elephant joy ride is available at both the places subject to availability of elephants.

This is for an hour or two for tourists know as "Joy Ride".

A prior permit / authorisation has to be taken from the Forest dept & a particular time ( well within the frame work of the excursion ) is assigned where your gypsy takes you in midst of the forest ( zone in which you have the entry ticket ) .

There you are met by your Mahawat & the elephant .... & then they take you for a stroll in the offroads ....

I have availed this around a year back at Kanha & the experience has been amazing.

Though the Mahawats do make a sincere effort for sightings ... but we were not fortunate enough.

We were told on our first trip that 1 hr is pretty less as there is lot of time taken for the to & fro journey so we had availed the next excursion for 2 hrs.

Its definitely worth going for but the challenge is its availability & very high demand.

Rgds
