Should I bring..?

Should I bring some sort of beach umbrella or portable sun shade?

Any other suggestions about what I should bring?

If you are staying in a hotel, parasols would be supplied on the beach and by the pool,

We took a small Rio Sunshade and it was only 4lbs. The loaner umbrellas are big and bulky if you are thinking of walking for miles.

I agree with traveller666 bring a thermal mug. also all medications you can think of because they are difficult to get hold of and tissues to use for nose and toilet paper. Thats all for now Lol. I am sure there will be loads of other important things.

I never bother with a portable sunshade, but that said, many who visit Cayo Largo like to set up their own private spot well away from the palapas in front of the hotel. If you like to lay claim to your own private piece of paradise, then some sort of shade would be very handy!
