Air Transat - YYZ to CYO

Only six more sleeps and we are on our way to Cayo Largo! We are flying Air Transat for the first time and are wondering about the flight, amenities and services. We've reserved the double seats at the back of the plane. Hoping for a relaxing flight :)

Unless you're flying Club class, Transat is pretty basic. Consider the upgrade (if available for your flight) if anyone in your party is especially tall, since the economy seats tend to be cramped, like on most airlines these days.

The schedule as it now stands turns a 7-day vacation into 6. Day One you are into the hotel AFTER all the buffets have shut down. The day you leave, you have to be out of your room at 11AM and wait around with packed bags until your evening flight. The old schedule with morning flights was much better.

During the high season (Dec to May approx) Hola Sun flights out of Toronto in past years were in the late afternoon arriving in the evening...the return flight left later in the evening. In the off season the flights from Toronto were early morning then back later without time for much except breakfast.

Check out time is 1200 but there is no problem leaving your luggage in the lobby (locking it is probably a good idea) and using any or all of the facilities...there are showers and changing facilities available. It is also sometimes possible to pay a bit extra and keep your room. You don't really lose a day...just change your routine a bit.

The Hola Sun evening flights were direct both ways, the morning ones stopped at Santiago de Cuba on the way back to Toronto.

Starting December 20 Hola Sun flights will be Saturday but times are currently indicated as n/a so things will change again.

It appears that Air Transat Vacations will be flying Sun starting Dec 21...arriving at Cayo Largo at 8:40 pm and leaving at 9:40...nothing available before that.

The main thing is, with or without a room you can use all the facilities and it's Cayo Largo! What more could anyone want?

The old early morning red-eye flights were wonderful. Start your day grumpy and groggy as you watch the de-icing crew hose down the airplane. Have a nap after take-off. Sunrise at 30,000 feet wakes you up. Into the hotel by 11AM. Room not ready? No problemo. Change into swim attire in the lobby rest room, them leave your luggage by your room while the service cart is still on the move with cleaning duties. Beach. Fun. Drink. Lunch. I miss those days.
