wandering star tours - slow boat to Luang Prabang

Any info. on Wandering Star tours, based in Chang Mai operating a tour from Chiang Mai, Huay Xai, Pak Beng, Luang Prabang including mini van and boat. Prices and reliability? Are the boats comforatable or crowded - in other words do the just use the cheapest long boat with as many as can fit?

Thanks

Pretty much answered your own question there if they are nominating the public boat as means of transport. Can be crowded and seats can be very hard. Bring a cushion. You don't need to use a travel company for this as you will pay considerably more. Just arrange transport through your guesthouse by minibus or bus. Read up on scams operating at the border re changing money for you and boat ticketing. See you in Luang Prabang.

We did fhe nagi of Mekong back in April and it was fabulous. Stayed in chiang khong overnight and then adjsek the owner picked us up at our guesthouse and took us down to the wharf.

Just booked direct through their website and everything went well. Two days on boat and overnight in pakbeng. Only seven of us on boat but probably space for about 30

Hi there,

As Millsie says, the Nagi was a wonderul experience. You can arrange much of the trip from Chiang Mai yourself, but we asked Adisak (from the Nagi tour mentioned above) to assit us, and he booked our bus to Chiang Rai, and driver from Chiang Rai to Chiang Khong with sightseeing, and then the trip. I've posted info and photos on my blog kgbtravels.blogspot.com.au.

You can also do some searchig on this forum to find additional info (just use the box at the top of the forum posts).

Hope this helps,

- K
