animal orphanage

Does anyone know if there is anywhere near Diani or Tsava East or West where there is the opportunity to feed orphan animals?

I know it sounds very touristy and I would not dream of doing this if it has any detrimental impact on the animals but would love the oppotunity to have close contact

Daphne Shedrick is keeping their Elephant orphans near the Voi Gate, but only if you are a Forster Parent of one Baby elephant and make pre arangement with Nairobi to be allowed to visit the elephants there.

As the aim of the project in Tsavo is to set the elephants free it is not realy good to visit them their.

When you are in Nairobi you can visit the elephants between 11.00 am and 12.00 am at the orphanage entrance fee was 300 kes. maybe better option.

they showed this week in Kenyan TV eleqhant diary about the baby elephants of Daphne Shedrick worth looking for it.

As Slofty said, the Sheldrake Trust has two places in Tsavo East where they rehabilitate the babies into the wild. The one near Voi is most accessible but you do need to be a foster parent (Care for the Wild) and get written permission to go and visit. We were there in June and I fell in love - with Mzima the most adorable little Jumbo.

If you are staying at Voi Safari Lodge you can build an afternoon visit into your safari itinerary (as long as its a private safari). Go around 4.15 ish and then you get to give the babies their milk bottles and play with them in the stockade.
