Ferry crossing can be a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes sail through, sometimes big queues.

Best to keep wimdows shut as local hawkers will try to flog you stuff through them if left open.

Make sure your drive up to Mombasa leaves on time, and nice and early to avoid the rush hour. Then it is an experience.

hi

ferry crossing is not as bad as everyone makes out, def a different experience..just enjoy. Both our ferry crossings were in the morning when everyone is on there way to work etc, both were very busy but enjoyable & are over before you know it. We also stayed at Diani Reef & it is the best hotel we have ever been to. The staff are really welcoming. Such a relaxing holiday. Enjoy.

We were there in August and used the ferry 6 times in total and never waited more than 15 minutes. Have a great holiday, we had an amazing time and loved Kenya :-)

Just got back from Mombasa and used the ferry a number of times and never had any problems, during the busy times they had 3 ferries running which cut down on waiting. We had a private transfer to and from the airport and the windows where tinted, we just kept the windows up and didnt get a bit of bother.

Thanks Kirsty - I worry too much sometimes! We usually holiday in December and tend to go to Caribbean so it will be interesting to see how Kenya compares. I have been told that Africa gets in your blood. Looking forward to it-have you been anywhere that compares to it? Thanks again :)

Dear Kinta,

Tourism is our food in south coast of Kenya and considering the recreational facilities that are there no any worry about the as ferry though sometimes could have teething problem but really you can not say the investors in South Coast have a great problem. Please carry up with your holiday in South Coast property and you would share with if we happen to meet.

Cheers for your holiday.

hi again,

we have also been to the caribbean before & really enjoyed it but was just blown away with our Kenyan experience. Out of the 2 destinations Kenya won easily. We cannot wait to return. We are slightly biast as we got married at Diani Reef but it is still the most beautiful place we have ever been to. If you get the chance try & go to N'giri's, it is a pub that is run by a lovely English couple..Darren & Emma. They make you feel so welcome & do lovely food also. Also Ali Barbours does the most awesome food & is set in a unique location.

I am so jealous of your trip. We are off to Greece on Monday 27th September (next week) but doubt it will come anywhere close to Kenya. Can't wait to hear how your holiday goes.

Kirsty:)

Hi,

we are also just back from Kenya and had - like the times before - never any problems with the ferries. Maybe we have been always lucky, but i can say, that from 2003 on we personally never had any problems with the ferry. Considering early flights we leave early enough at the hotel. This might be for some stressfull, but not for us.

Bye

Chrissy
