hi, should we send off for the visas before we go? are there any advantages of either option?

Hi,

Buying on arrival is cheaper and you don't have to send your passport off, however if you are entering the country at Mombasa unless you get right to the front of the queue you will wait twice as long. In practice this may make no difference as you may still have to wait for your bags, and if you are on a tour company transfer you will be waiting for the last person anyway

I guess every one has their preference but we personally send away for the multiple visa special delivery - with a special delivery envelope to come back and have had no problems.

Certainly at Moi airport we have seen the queues of people waiting for the visa and they can be long and we just go when called to the other queue which takes the passports with visas and usually walk straight through.

Perhaps by luck we have always got our bags quickly and our friend is waiting for us to take us to the South Coast and certainly arrrive before the tour coach which may have other stops at different hotels.

After a drive from Edinburgh to Manchester and the wait for the flight to Mombasa we find it easier to have the visa.

Again I would personally say it is your choice.

just be warned, if you send off before hand make sure you do it several weeks before your holiday.....took three weeks to get ours back. We did get a refund of £10pp. Said £30 on web but actually only charged £20.

Personally we sent ours off before January and received within the five working days that it states in their rules.

Perhaps luck but have never had any problems in obtaining the visa and that is before visas were introduced - I can't remember the year but certainly 1996 we did not need to have a visa.

This year all went smoothly.

I have a contanct in the visa section if anyone is interested.

The reduced costs of $25 or £20 and no visa for children under 16 have now been retained until 1 July

We downloaded the visa form from the kenya High commission site, completed it prior to going and saved at lot of time at Mombasa airport. Straight through while others were filling in forms and joining queues!

You can always pay in sterling at Mombasa, they occasionally insist on Dollars at Nairobi.

BTW Its actually cheaper to pay in dollars at the moment $25 is less than £16, even at places like Travelex, M&S and PO
