Hi Hollymay,

We flew to Mombasa on this date two years ago, and had a week of almost constant rain!! However, we were told it was unusual, and that the sun WOULD arrive, but alas, it never really did. The weather did cheer up a bit when we went inland on our safari, but at best, it was 'sunny intervals'.

We're going out there again in two weeks' time, and hope for better weather this time. Unless there's actually a monsoon, it can't possibly be as bad as it was before!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but June-October is rainy season in the tropics!

Hi,

ESJ is only partially correct. Here in Kenya we have two 'rainy' seasons: the Long Rains, usually from mid-March / early April through to early / mid-June. It is generally then pretty dry until the Short Rains in October, November and maybe early December.

However the weather has been strange this year and the Long Rains don't seem to have really stopped. But that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of sun. Most of the rain is overnight. During the day it is usually a very short, very heavy shower and then things quickly dry off. We did have a couple of days a few days ago where we just had one shower after the other coming like waves but that was exceptional even for the abnormal weather weather are having. We have had rain at nights and a shower most days but most days it has cleared early or mid morning leaving most of the day hot and sunny

Hi Doff,

Sounds a but more promising than our last visit, then. Hopefully we'll be able to get a bit of a tan between the showers, this time!

Today's weather at Diani beach can be viewed at the webcam link below.

When you get to the webpage scroll down to the bottom to see photos taken at hourly intervals.

The cam looks east over the Indian Ocean near Diani Beach. It is located at the Diani Beach shopping centre.
