hi we are staying in trapezaki village in a villa near the bakery -do we need a car or are the any shops or tavernas nearby -happy to do some walking! thanks
We have stayed in various apartments/villas over the years in Trapezaki and have always hired a car from the airport.
If Trapezaki Village is where I think it is, there is 1 taverna very close to Trapezaki Village and another simple grill type taverna virtually across the road. Stamna Taverna is about a 5/10 minute walk up the hill on the right hand side of the road. Enestrom Taverna is probably about a 15 minute walk from your accommodation.
There is a very good mini market at the cross roads but if you are self catering there is a much wider choice of supermarkets if you drive towards Argostoli. AB is a Belgian Supermarket and could be compared to Sainsburys and there is a Lidl which is on the way back from Argostoli on the dual carriage way. There are also some excellent smaller supermarkets in Lourdas. Lots of other tavernas can be found in Lourdas.
The beach at Trapezaki is at the bottom of the hill and if you are young & fit the walk down may take you about 20/30 minutes, but if it’s hot, would hate to think how long it would take you to walk back up! It’s quite a hill.
To get the most out of Kefalonia, you do really need a car as although there are local buses, they are not frequent and the island has so much to offer, it is worth exploring!
I have to say we are biased as we are going back for our 2nd visit this year at the end of August!
If its the Bakery at the top of the hill on main Road you will need a car.
as you will be walking down to beach 2km . walk back up when hot is hard work. Also to benefit your stay there is so many good things to see. we stay at Villa Nancy nr the Bakery and always hire car from airport now.
Can reccomend Bepementes just passed cross roads in Trapesaki very traditional and not expensive really good food.
Aso reccomend Venus renta car we have used Kostas for 7 yesars and always got excellent price and service.
Most villas came with a car if yours does not try asking them they may be able to help with a company at a better price that you can get on your own whilst there.
hi many thanks this is really helpful -have i understood correctly they are relaly 2 taverna within walking distance of trapezali village ? also roughyl how far is lourdas walking please ?
Is this where you are staying?
If it is, yes there are 2 tavernas very close.
Lourdas is really in 2 halves, 1 half at the top of the hill which would probably take 30/40 minutes. The lower half of the village which is about a mile down the hill by the sea would probably take a further 25 minutes to walk to & at least double to walk back up the notorious hill.
I agree you will need a car. If you are at the top by the bakery then its a long walk toi the beach at the bottom passing a taverna and mini market by the cross roads. Also good taverna by the beach. Recommend you organise the car hire now to pick it up at the airport - 20 min ride to Trapezaki. Fantastic Island to tour and easier to drive than in UK!!
If you do decide to get a car if the villa owners are not forthcoming you can try the company we use as a starter for some prices etc they are in Lassi but will deliver. They are called cefalonia rent a car, there is no web site, but you can reach them as we do by email:- firstname.lastname@example.org
If you do hire a car can reccomend Venus renta car used Kostas for 7years and everything is covered obn insurance. he will deliver and collect at airport or your accomadation.
we always have a car such a lot to see and we stay near the bakery at top of the road with friends who own Villa Nancy
