How scary is the road

We are planning a trip in mid September. Planning on spending our first night in Macinaggio, and then driving to Ile Rousse. I am afraid of heights, how does this road compare to the one to Sorrento Italy? More or less scary? If too scary we are thinking of changing our trip to 2 nights in

Ile Rousse, one night near Corte, and the last night in Bastia. Comment?

We are not the world's bravest drivers but we drove all around the Balagne region, the dramatic North West coast road and from Feliceto[Balagne] to half way up the western side of Cap Corse.

Of all the roads the road along the north coast to Cap Corse was the least scary!

The road from the southern end of Cap Corse to Ille Rouse is straightforward and shouldn't be a problem. The road along the west coast of Cap Corse was not difficult as far as we dove,at least.

the roads around the Balagne and the coastal road from Calvi down the north west coast do require a lot of concentration.

It does seem to be a somewhat strange itinery. Why are you going to Macinaggio? It's not on the way to L'ile Rousse and, whilst pleasant enough, does not warrent going out of your way to. If you're going around Cap Corse, you'll be going the wrong way if you are worried about the roads. It is possible to get from Bastia to the Balagne region on quite reasonable roads, but always assume that the roads away from the few "N" roads will be scary. You'll miss a lot just staying on the main roads and if you really are worried, maybe Corsica is not the place for you.

Agree that staying on the main roads is going to cut out some of the best scenery.

We are not the most intrepid but we managed the minor roads in the Balagne and the north west coast road by taking it slowly and letting the locals past at the earliest opportunity.

Which road to Sorrento in Italy? The roads along and above the Amalfi coast are of a comparable scariness to the roads in Corsica, although with much more traffic, but I don't remember the main roads to Sorrento from Naples being particularly bad.

As Aardvaark says, you would do better to drive round Cap Corse in a clockwise direction, hugging the rocks rather than looking over the edge. Going from Macinaggio to St. Florent anti-clockwise wouldn't be great if you don't like heights. The road is also very slow, as is that from St. Florent through the Agriates back to the main Bastia -Calvi road. I think two nights in Ile Rousse might be a better bet for you.
