Golden Bay - Iconic Road Reopening.

For those travelling through to Golden Bay. The access road between Golden Bay (Wainui Bay end) to Totaranui (Abel Tasman N P) has been closed since last Christmas (2011).

Record breaking rains in December 2011 caused significant landslips and flooding throughout Golden Bay and Nelson. The gravel road to Totaranui suffered significant washouts.

Initially it was thought this road could not be repaired economically. However, repairs to this iconic 'special purpose' road were prioritised and extensive engineering work done over the past seven months.

The Totaranui road will be officially reopened to the public tomorrow, Friday 29th June at 11am with an official reopening ceremony.
