acceptable reading material

How does one know if a particular magazine is legal/acceptable to bring to Cuba? Who decides?

The custom agent will decide if it's acceptable or not.

But really, don't worry about it... Unless it's pornographic, or clearly antirevolution (if the tittle of the magasin denigrates Fidel or Cuba, it might give you a clue...) you will have no problem what so ever.

2. Re: acceptable reading material

From what I have read, it's cannot be pornographic or anti-revolution, or pre-revolution, or anything to do with socialism/communism. I am not sure how active they are on taking these materials away from tourists. I plan on bring magazines, but more entertainment ones... I'm assuming they won't be a problem.

Edited for spelling error :)

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Further to your answer: I am increasingly confused as to what magazine may or may not be pornographic: e.g., Sports Illustrated (advertising), Playboy, Maxim ...

It is my opinion only, that I think those mags are ok. My husband reads FHM, or whatever it's called, and they usually have some pretty scantily-clad gals on the front. I don't think this will be an issue. I think pornographic would more refer to "nudie mags" or whatever you guys call them, ex. playboy. I wouldn't case a fuss if they try to take it, but I doubt they will question you on it.

I don't know, but for me, what magazines are porn is pretty obvious... If you have full nudity, or if the purpose of the magazines is to display women, it is... Sports Ilustrated is a sport magazine, isn't it?

zodnhoj, if you are increasingly confused as to what magazine is pornographic, I suggest you find out before you go, or suffer the consequences!

I can appreciate the fact you are on this forum to find out.

Leave them at the bar for the staff... not as a gift/tip just a nice thing to do when you are done. I left a magazine that I was done with and for the next 2 days I saw the staff leafing through the pages.

I would imagine that Playboy is NOT ok....I know it's not hardcore porn, but there is definitely nudity. The bf has brought Maxim in with no troubles.
