Trips with children...

Hi all,

After your advice and realising that one of the trip we had chosen to do would actually not be suitable with young children I just want to check that the other two trips we would like to do will be okay.

We would like to do the dolphin full day trip and also the paradise Island trip. Both my 5 and 1 year old LOVE the water and love to snorkel etc. Do you think both these trips will be okay? Or are there any other trips that you think would suit us better as a family?

Only 9 days to go!!!!! :-).

Thank you xXx

Are you talking about this trip?:

Island Paradise Catamaran - An unmissable day as you take to the sea and sail out to the Island of Cayo Saetia with a snorkelling stop. Whilst there you can be adventurous and hire a jeep to take you around the island to see the islands wildlife. For relaxation take time out on the beautiful beaches and indulge in some sunbathing. The day includes an all-inclusive bar on the boat and lunch on the island with one drink included. Trip operates Mon/Thurs/Sat. Adults 69 CUC; Children 48 CUC.

?? If you are, are you not nervous about talking your youngest in the jeep?

I am travelling with my 4 yr old Easter, and I am trying to find some day trips too, but keep crossing the options out for one reason or another. would like to hear your point of view . . .

PrincessSarah:

I have gone on the Island Paradise Catamaran excursion and would not recommend it for small chidren. I think that the dolphin excursion is more suitable for smaller children.

would you put a one year old in with the dolphins? would they have a lifevest small enough for her?.... what would she ever remember about swimming with the dolphins; isnt that an extravagant waste of money??

I agree about the Cayo Saetia catamaran trip... especially if you have the cat that you have to swim in and out to... and it isnt easy to get back on board dependent on what Cat you have.

It isn't a fact of her remembering it though, its the fact of us all doing things together as a family and why should my 5 year old miss out just because my one year old might not remember it, so won't remember any of the trips...or the holiday for that matter but that's not going to stop us doing it. Also she we will be taking a life vest with us to make sure she is safe in the water, she already has one from us going to Egypt, Turkeyand Fuerteventura last year, both girls are used to water so I'm not at all worried about that.

As for the jeep ride on the catamaran trip, I would take that as road safety would be an issue for me personally. But I think you have to pay extra for that anyway.

However I didn't realise you had to swim out to the catamaran...that's maybe something to think about. Xx

We did the dolphin tour last year with my 5 and 1 1/2 year old. They would not allow the youngest in to swim with the dolphins. The 5 year old loved it. It was a great day but not so much for the young one. It doesn't matter if you have a small life vest. It is just their age guidelines.

I agree with a minimum age for swimming with the dolphins. It isn't a matter of how confident in the water they are but the unseen dangers. The dolphins come right up to you and unfortunately when ours rolled over its flippers hit my head and it really hurt. For a very young child it could be a real danger.

I won't be taking my 1 year old in with the dolphins anyway. But my 5 year old will love it and both will love the shows. What I meant with the life vest is she can use it for the snorkeling trips :-) ... Glad its confirmed that my 5 year old can do it. X x
