Been cruising since 1978 and have lost count of the amount of cruises I have been on and what lines. Some were Norwegian, Royal, Disney, Commodore, Dolphin, Celebration and Carnival. This was the first Carnival cruise and ship we have been on since 2015. We had been loyal to NCL since then and we were a little apprehensive about the Horizon based on some of the reviews. But we did get a great deal on a 8 night southern cruise and we took our son on his graduation cruise from college.

But with that being said, I must admit, this was an amazing 8 day cruise and we could have not been happier. We had an one interior room and one Spa Balcony on the 11th floor. The interior on the 9th floor, I thought was very spacious and larger than some I had seen on NCL. The Spa Balcony we found to be very spacious and had tons of storage. It seemed much larger than the last balcony we had on NCL also. Our room steward Gede was amazing and extremely helpful, and got us anything we needed. His animal towels were always appreciated, and he was always extremely kind and friendly. The robes and slippers were greatly appreciated.

We knew in advance that the Skyride would not be working prior to our sailing. Even though it was a great disappointment, we did not let this impact our opinion of our cruise. We did the on line check in and we were shocked how easy it was when we got to the port. We were supposed to check in at 12:30 PM but we arrived early and we just were directed to a sitting area. At 10:30 AM we were called to board and did not have to check in anywhere like with other cruise lines. They took our picture as we boarded the ship and we picked up our keys at our room. No hassle, no waiting, right on and we were eating by 11 AM at the buffet.

Even though most people complain about the smart elevators, we found them to be very good and they eliminated wait times. The biggest problem with the smart elevators is the guest who do not understand how they operate and do not follow the very simple procedures to operate them. That in my opinion is what causes the delays in the operations of the smart elevators.

We never had an issue at the breakfast or lunch buffets, even though the ship was full. The biggest lines were at the omelette lines, but that is to be expected. We never had an issue finding seating, only sometimes it was a little warm in the dining room area. The deli had great sandwiches, the Guy Burgers were great and we recommend the lunch BBQ on the outside deck of the 5th floor.

We did dine at your time dining and we really liked how it worked. Joel and his team made our dining experince extremely wonderful. They always remembered our names and what we may or may not be drinking. If they knew we were trying to get to a show, they always pushed to get us out as quickly as possible.

We thoroughly enjoyed the upgraded bathroom amenities in the Spa Balcony and we loved the Thermal Suites area. The fitness center was well equipped and only busy at certain times. We did take advantage of a spa treatment and it was well worth the time and cost. It will be very hard to book Carnival again and not get a Spa Balcony.

We loved all of the comedians at the comedy club especially BT and Macio. The shows in the main theater were fantastic, the sport bar was great and we really like all of the entertainment on the ship.

But the best part of this cruise without a doubt, was the cruise staff and the Cruise Director. I had been convinced since our days with NCL that Tyler Gray was the best Cruise Director I had ever seen from NCL. But now without a shadow of a doubt, Jonathan "Cookie" Adams, now is our favorite Cruise Director of all time. First and foremost, Cousin Cookie makes you feel like you are part of his family and part of the Carnival Cruise Line Family. It takes a very special person to make you feel that way.

His team of Leo and Gerry with a G, and the others went out of there way to make you feel welcomed and that you mattered. They all were very approachable and they were always out and about and extremely visible through the entire cruise. Cousin Cookie was extremely funny and very entertaining whether it was at his daily show or just seeing him out and about on the ship.

Cousin Cookie you usually saw either getting off or coming back on to the ship. His White Party was absolutely fantastic, and he was amazing at his Groove For St. Jude deck event. First it was extremely hot that day it occurred on, and the cruise staff and the entertainers were working hard to raise money for St. Jude's. Not only was Jonathan "Cookie" Adams doing everything he could on the microphone to raise money for St.Jude's. He also was taking care of his team, and the entertainers. He busted open a case of bottled water, and took each team member and each entertainer a bottle of water during this very hot day.

This my friends is a true leader of people, and a very caring person. We did take the time to let Jonathan know how we felt and thanked him for a wonderful 8 day vacation. It was an honor to watch him do what he does, and Carnival is lucky to have someone who is so engaging with the guest and his team.

As we departed the ship we did see Gerry with a G and thanked him for a wonderful time. To our surprise, Cousin Cookie was at the main exit of the ship and we got a chance to again thank him and say our goodbyes. We cannot recommend the Carnival Horizon enough, and we have already booked a cruise on Carnival for the Mardi Gras. We are now looking at 2020 for a return to the Horizon to see our new friend and family member Cousin Cookie.

After being on 3 previous Carnival Cruises in the last few years, {2 times on Carnival Ecstasy and 1 time Carnival Conquest} we were really excited to enjoy the newer and more luxurious Carnival Horizon, especially since we had spent the extra money for the upgraded Havana

What a beautiful HUGE ship! I have been on other cruises before but this was the best so far! I wish I did a longer cruise because I didn't get to really explore the whole ship. I will definitely go on the Horizon ASAP! The food and entertainment were TOP NOTCH! :)
