“Delhi to Auckland via Shanghai”
Review of China Eastern Airlines

This was a combination of 2 flights which started as MU564 from Delhi to Shanghai then MU779 through to Auckland. In the space of about a month from the time we left NZ to the time we were flying home on this flight the improvement was amazing. We had planned on giving the airline an average rating based on our flight Auckland to Delhi but we have changed our minds following our return flight. The airplane was spotless and the meals were superb. The cabin crew were attentive, polite and spoke good english.I hope that this flight is the start of things to come and if so I will definitely fly with them again.

This was my first China Eastern flight leaving on Monday 2nd October 2017 and a long haul one at that and it was excellent.
The flight was 3/4s full and it was the Cabin Crew Supervisor who really made this flight for us...she saw we were both 'well endowed' women and found an empty row for my companion and we both had a wonderful flight and managed a long sleep....the plane was full of older Chinese tourists and a lot of young 20 something friends who were off to sample the delights of NZ...they were infectious in their excitement and even an old jaded kiwi felt proud of their excitement as they were pouring over tour books about the country...the dinner and breakfast was absolutely delicious and I chose pork noodles and then dumplings which were delicious....the Cabin Crew were very efficient and warm ...the entertainment obviously geared to the core market but there was enough in English to entertain on a 12 hour flight....all in all an unexpected delight....

We were dreading this flight after reading all the reviews but the flight truly exceeded our expectations. Staff was very polite, seats comfortable, service good and food was also decent. Our entertainment systems worked fine on both sectors (SFO to Shanghai and onwards to Delhi). I would say this is nothing short of a full service airline with great service at awesome prices. We were really impressed and would fly with them anytime again!

Flew from shanghai to Wuhan in a boeing aircraft all economy class and it was full. Late leaving but an uneventful short flight

Hello Everybody!
I had a chance to travel via China Eastern Airline (CE) a number of times since the last five years. from my home town Kolkata (CCU), India to Seoul via different cities in China. Each time I have had a different experience.The overall experience I must say is good.
This airline is known as a cheaper airline compared. So, you cannot blame them if you find any of their service unsatisfactory.
1. Most of the international flights of CE have theri respective stop at some Chinese Cities. the problem may arise when you are traveling through Chinese domestic route. Sine these flights cover more than one cities, they often arrive and depart late. 1-2 hour late is usual for CE flights. This is more so during rainy season. so if you are choosing a CE flight itinerary, please keep you r lay over over time at least 3:30 plus. Otherwise you are going suffer. We experienced this. Because most of the flights move over hilly areas.
2. The airport staff do not Know or do not like to speak in English. we were coming from Nanjing (NKG) to Kunming (KMG). Due to extreme weather the flights from NKG were delayed by at least 12 hours. We had to board the next day flight with 8 hr delay. But no announcement was made at the airport in English. This is the incidence that occurred in July 4, 2017. Only a banner in Chines was walled up after five hours later. So, you can understand the quality of the customer service. If you want to communicate, they will never talk to you in English.
3. due to flight cancellation, we requested them to provide us with accommodation. Believe me, we had to implore with the help of a chines speaking Indian Doctor before they agreed.
4.Food quality is just okay.
5. Leg space depends on which route your flight is taking. If your flight is traveling to outbound international destination like from Shanghai to Seoul or to Tokyo , then large flights are given. But if it is first through a domestic route and then from some lesser known city to your international destination, then leg space is significantly small such as in flights traveling from Qingdao to Seoul.
6.Another problem of CE airline is that only from US website you can complete your online checking. They have kept free seats to a minimum umber and will charge for other seat selection. So you have to go for spot check in.
7. In-flight entertainment is a big ZERO.
8. Overall experience is mixed
8. But the cost of travel is lowest.
9. So, a value for money but also at the same time some uncertainty is there in the form of delays, rude behavior, sudden change of gate number etc.
I will rate this airline as 6 out of 10.
