“New plane but same old service”
Review of El Al Israel Airlines

Reviewed 27 June 2018 via mobile

Flew on one of El Al’s new 777’s. Personal screens are good with a lot of choice of movies, but surprisingly the seats aren’t very comfortable although adjustable headrests were welcome. Unfortunately the cabin service remains as poor as ever with one round of drinks only, served by generally miserable staff. We’ve been told that they have a new chef, which may be true as the food has got even duller and blander than before. Chicken with couscous had about 5 pieces of green beans, a smear of tomato sauce and the minced chicken balls were absolutely taste free. They’re almost always cheaper than BA but not in the same league. Generally whenever we can we use Lufthansa even though it requires a transfer at Frankfurt.

Ok - it's true. The seats are crowded and it's hard to be comfortable in such a long trip. But El Al staff are really something. They are friendly, courteous and warm. El Al has a slogan "The Most At Home in the World" (it loses in the translation) and my husband and I witnessed an "Only in Israel" moment on that flight. When a young mother was not able to eat her meal, the flight attendant took her baby and walked with her for twenty minutes so the mother could eat and rest!

New El Al 787 dream liner. Sat in exit aisle so had allot of leg room. Entertainment console in the armrest so was a bit bothersome but the choices were abundant. Service was real good. Food was very good for airline food. Overall trip was long but very comfortable.

The ambiance entering an El Al plane takes you back to the flying experience years back when the chairs were made of fabric with out of date entertainment system and service that at least stressed me. I will try to avoid this airline in the future

We paid full economy fares but were put in back seats near the toilet which did not recline more than 5 degrees. The entertainment system also did not work. Staff tried to be helpful but were overall not particularly pleasant, especially on our flight to Tel Aviv from Bangkok. Food was very sub standard for a full cost carrier.
