Japan airlines codeshares with Finnair and we found both the airlines very good. The route traverses Russia/Siberia near the north pole and the experience and scenery itself is a treat. Helsinki is a sort of northern version of the middle east transit terminals, but much more relaxed and less frantic. There are two stops at Tokyo and Helsinki but the waiting time was short. The trip only took an extra 2 hours compared to the middle east routes and in my opinion is worth the extra time. The business class prices were several thousand dollars cheaper than the comparable middle east routes. The planes are modern and the cabin crew service was excellent.
