“Can't get more Basic”
Review of United Airlines

Reviewed 28 June 2017

Flying economy and long haul shouldn't be a punishment. However, with United Airlines I was treated with the basic curtesy, minimum communication and generally an unwelcome guest on an 11 hour flight. The basic blanket and pillow was given, no eye mask, no toothbrush, no ear plugs like some other airlines in economy. The entertainment system were screens in the centre of the plane (very outdated) however it wasn't working in economy and we were told to use our own devices and use the airlines app. But we should have downloaded before we got onto the plane, no-one at check in told us this (even there the airport check in staff for United just shouted at us to get in line and drop off our luggage). It bothered me that the stewards were not apologetic or friendly and hearing them give the same explanation to an elderly gentleman who had no smart phone or tablet was just sad. The staff were on the verge of being rude, like robots heartless. Rubbish was collected as though they were disgusted with what we were giving back to them, with a black trash bag in hand. Fearing the need to ask for extra water, as you may get a look of distaste for putting them to do something extra (which happened). On my flight going to San Francisco the feeling was the same except the entertainment system was on the back seats and one English steward gave me a fresh cup of tea as she understood my disappointment when I was given a stewed warm tea. Generally very disappointing and I will pay the extra $100 to fly with a little more dignity next time.

Flight was delayed 2 times... No type of onboard snack/food, movies had to be paid for, nothing free.... I'm not sure whats going on but United seems to be going in a downwards spiral.

We had a very negative experience. We, along with several other passengers, were bumped from First Class to Coach despite having paid for a first class ticket months ago. We were given $1,500 each worth of United vouchers which we can't use (we live in New Zealand) unless we fly to the USA which is going to cost us $2000 approximately each. A mother, travelling with her mother and four young children who had originally booked to sit together (for obvious reasons) were separated and the airline staff had to negotiate with other passengers to allow the family to sit together. The flight was further delayed while we waited for catering to be loaded abroad. We missed our connection from San Francisco to New Zealand as a result. All in all, a fiasco.

Uncomfortable.Difficult to sleep. One of my "perks" are passes to the frequent flier lounge, which they WOULD NOT honor.

Normal flight from SFO to HNL. Average service. No exceptional events noted.Flight departed on time and arrived in HNL 20 minutes early. Miss the exceptional inflight service used to be provided by the airline, movies, entertainment music versus having to use self ipad or Iphones. Miss monitoring flight path and flight info while inflight. Some airlines are bringing back light meals (free of charge). Wish United would do the same.
