We knew we wanted to have a seafood meal in Havelock, but didn't know where or what exactly we wanted to order. The Mussel Pot's funny little mussel characters that adorn the fence, sidewalk and roof of this establishment let us know that at least they had a sense of humor. We weren't prepared for just how delightful this meal was going to be, served on lovely wooden tables in the dappled shade of the garden. We ordered the steamed mussels with garlic and fresh bread and it was everything we could have hoped for. And the mussels are so pretty!

After an amazing day on the Pelorus Mail boat, we stopped off on Jim's recommendation at the Mussell Pot for tea.....so glad we did.....a Mussell Platter for 2....Seafood Chowder with bread, 36 Mussels done in 5 different ways, all this for just $45. followed up by a beautiful Banana Pie...for such a little place like Havelock, this was heaven..and well worth any visitors going past to stop and call in.......

This is a really pleasant dining experience, the restaurant is very welcoming assisted by courteous and helpful staff, you dine on wonderful highly polished wooden tables which appear to be made out of local indigenous trees. There is a an outside dining area for warmer days but an equally acceptable inside dining area. Havelock is the mussel centre of New Zealand and if you want to sample the green lipped mussel at its best then this restaurant is the place to go. The portions are more than adequate and the variety of different flavours on offer to accompany your mussels is excellent !
If I have one criticism it is that the green lipped mussel is over rated and no where near as flavoursome as its European cousin ! But hey, "when in Rome, do as the Romans do" and this restaurant does more than enough to compensate for that with all of its different options and well cooked mussels !

My husband is flexitarian (eats vegan at home, eats whatever he wants out) and was really wanting a feast of green lipped mussels. We came here and to my surprise and delight, there was a vegan option that was also gluten free!

My meal was divine. It had everything I could wish for in a meal. Two large gluten free wraps, a bowl of warm beans, rice congee, hummus, and salad. Wow.

My husband had a pot of mussels with garlic and wine sauce and a side of fresh bread. He said the mussels were perfectly cooked and the bread was warm and fresh.

We dined outside the normal lunch rush, so sat outside in the beautiful courtyard. It was cool and shaded and very peaceful.

I'd happily recommend this restaurant, and would definitely dine here.
