“The Definition of Paradise”

We came here for our honeymoon and could not have asked for a more amazing place to celebrate our new life together. The island is absolutely beautiful, the resort is lovingly cared for, the staff are fantastic, and the food was fantastic. We did a couple of the options available- couples picnic on the beach, champagne sunset cruise, romantic dinner on the beach- and every single moment spent on the island was a moment spent in complete paradise. No cars, no TVs, no phones, no kids, no solicitors. Just simple relaxation at it's finest.

Room Tip: From what I could tell, all rooms on the island were fantastic!

Returned from a great 9 days at Palm Island - a wonderful place to relax. So many things to appreciate: a peaceful sandy beach (no hawkers), superb food, walks around an unspoilt island, sea birds and iguanas to watch, a catamaran trip to Tobago Cays (thank you Anthony for persuading me), fabulous attentive and interesting staff (Katie, Anthony, Madonna, Peter, Kevin and Tony to name just a few), and comfy, spacious, cool accommodation (we stayed in an island loft). Thank you to everyone there for a superb holiday!

Room Tip: We had an Island Loft - number 41

This place is a must to visit, we had a fabulous time with every aspect of the hotel and holiday being first class. We booked a standard room which was more than adequate and I would consider it premium in other destinations. A special mention to head chef Bacca, the food was the best we have experienced on all our travels with Bacca visiting the tables after the meal which was a nice touch. A great holiday, excellent location and the best service we have experienced in the Caribbean. We will return.

The best part: the gorgeous beaches all around the small island, the solitude, and the truly friendliness of all working there! The food is very good with a fresh seafood choice on the menu daily. Of course, all the drink is included, including top-shelf beverages! There is a breakfast buffet or one may order a la carte. Even the first pouring from the brewed coffee pot is delicious. [The black birds are a bit of a bother, but other resorts have the same problem and PI does their best.] One can have lunch at either the Sunrise Grill or the main restaurant; both are very good. The frequent entertainers play music one wishes to hear on vacation. Mingling with the other guests, mostly Brits, particularly at the bar, was great fun. Katie, the new manager is very accommodating handling every concern one might have. Waite until you meet Anthony, you will love his oversight of the dining.
We stayed on a Seagrapes Suite. It was large with a twin shower and fastidiously cleaned and maintained with good air conditioning and ceiling fans. The refrigerator/bar was stocked with beer daily, but if you ask you can get bottled water. The in-room coffee is better than most hotels, but not as good as in the restaurant. Fresh cream is supplied daily. The bath is stocked with robes, fluffy towels, a hair dryer and small toiletries and has a very large Jacuzzi tub. The king bed was very comfortable. Plenty of soft chairs to lounge in and a table with chairs. The resort recommends spraying the room for insects daily, but we did so only 3 times and had no problems.
There are sand fleas and mosquitos, but the resort has a vigorous insect control program. If you use the supplied "Off" as we did you should have no problem. Such insects are not atypical for the islands.
There are many activities and excursions available. One can walk or cycle around the island easily. I recommend the Tobago Keys Yanni catamaran excursion; one eats well and can see sea life. We played tennis on the well-maintained courts and sailed one of the 3 Hobies which are in great shape. The wind is always blowing, but not so much in the lee of the island. The snorkeling off the beach is Okay, but better at Tobago Keys. If you consider SCUBA, consider the usual 20 mph winds and the pounding you will take heading into the wind. Our dive boat seemed to have a problem clearing exhaust fumes.
Getting to PI seems arduous, but is worth it.
I give PI a "5" recognizing it is not a Ritz-Carlton; but the staff tries so very hard and it is not only head and shoulders above many other island resorts (of the 18 we have visited over the past 15 years) but it is clearly on the verge of a "5."

This was our 8th visit and still no sign of this magnificent island beginning to slide – too far!!
One of the biggest fears with returning to a resort a second time is that you worry that it may not live up to your expectations. This island excels it matching and surpassing these every time. Yes, there is an air of familiarity but the staff, new and old, are a credit to the Management Team that are responsible for the island. Admittedly there have been changes which the current team are going to have to manage carefully.. For those returning to the island (repeaters) you will notice that the pre dinner hors d’oeuvres have been cut from the evening features only to be replaced by Crisps (chips to our American friends) and peanuts at the bar. This is something that had supposedly been implemented whilst the island was between permanent managers - Jan thru mid April – Katie the new manager is going to see if she can get them re-established – let's see how she copes with this simple task :)

On this occasion we opted to stay in one of the larger villas, Sea Feathers. This boasts three double bedrooms complete with TV’s, Lounge, kitchen and decking to the front and back. The back decking eases you down towards your own private beach. For us, and the two other couples we shared with, this offered us the best value for money conjoined with privacy and exclusivity when required. For those thinking of visiting in a group this property should be a serious consideration.

Being one of life’s sweeter mortals the local mosquitoes and sand flies seem to head straight for me – but to be honest you very rarely see the little devils... the first you know they have been about is when you have been bitten and you start to itch... so no swarms or things to even swat - I'm sure they went to the very best Ninja School before being let loose on the island :) – Plenty of bug repellent and the island fogging regime(mass bug spray) does seem to help.

Seriously if you let the mosquitoes put to off a trip to Palm Island you will be missing a treat.

Snorkelling around the island is fairly good... to the LHS of the landing jetty and to the RHS of the beach... a must is the Yannis catamaran trip to Tobago Cays... here you get to swim with the turtles as well as swim along the coral reef and enjoy the diverse sea life that populates it..

We are now looking forward to our return trip next year... or will we go twice!!

This is a serious resort for those who want fantastic surroundings, relaxation, excellent food, drink and first class service.. Once again - Well done the Palm island Team!!

We returned back from Palm Island just about a week ago. Coming from New England, we had a 12 hour journey down, and a 16 hour slog back, so getting there isn't for the faint of heart. If your itinerary includes over 10 hours of travel, we would highly suggest flying first class to help combat the exhaustion of traveling, as we did... it is worth the extra money. The aside from the typical airport/immigration hell, the only other travel discomfort was the plane ride from Barbados to Union Island.

The plane was full, the weather was warm, and we sat on the tarmac for a while. I usually adjust to extreme temperatures well, but it became fairly uncomfortable on the plane (in terms of hot stagnant air), until we got into the air... but even then, the air vents in the ceiling didn't work. The flight back was on the same model plane, but it was in much better condition, and the air vents worked well. We had a stop in Bequia both ways, which didn't show up on the itinerary... we were apprised of it as we were getting our tickets. It wasn't a big deal, and the stop only lasted a few minutes.

When we arrived at Union Island, we had about 11 people to jam on the stretch golf cart. It was a very tight squeeze, but the distance to travel wasn't far. We were met on the boat by Keith, who provided us with ice cold towels to wipe our brows, and bottled water, while we waited for our luggage. The boat ride to the island was great, and I elected to sit where I would get wet, so I could get a jump on enjoying the water and the weather.

We were greeted by several of the staff, including Katie, the new general manager, on the dock. After brief introductions, and an ice cold rum punch, we were brought to our room, and our luggage followed shortly thereafter. Our room was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers everywhere, and because we were celebrating a delayed honeymoon, there was also chilled champagne, an animal crafted out of a towel on the bed, and a fresh fruit dish.

I hesitate to give the place a great review, because I want to keep the place a secret for only those who know how wonderful the place is! We enjoyed just about all of the activities they had to offer, and took several walks around the island, and along the 5 beaches. We wanted a place to go where we could get away to a remote and quiet beach... and Palm Island is perfect. We found our favorite spot on the island in one of the remote hammocks positioned at the end of one of the beaches.

The service was good, and the staff worked hard to be accommodating. Occasionally we would wonder if our food or drink had been forgotten, but it always arrived... keep in mind you are in island time! Our room was always well cleaned and organized, however, on two occasions the door was not shut all the way upon our return. The turn down service occurred two of the eight nights we were there. In addition, the water pressure was very low a couple of times, but keep in mind, this place, as do many of the small islands in this area, run off generators.

The food was excellent, and we truly looked forward to every meal. Chef Baka does a wonderful job. The soups were incredible, and the entrees were presented well and always tasty. The bread was okay, but not the fresh crunchy kind with the tender interior that I prefer. We were introduced to Margaret's Special... made best only by Margaret herself, which is a refreshing drink to seek out should you go to Palm Island.

The grounds were well tended to, and there was always someone caring for them. The fumigation only occurred once while we were there, and we didn't find it particularly offensive... we were outside by the beach, and the breeze readily ushered the smoke away. Contrary to other reviews, we really didn't have any trouble with biting insects. We only got a mosquito bite or two when we were playing pool in the library area, but we didn't wear bug spray the whole time.

There could be a bit better attention to detail, for example, there were bird feathers stuck in the lines intended to keep the birds out, that were never removed. We found a cache of cigarette butts next to one of the trees on the main beach at the resort, and many of the shuffle board tangs were broken... although we were able to use two. The horseshoe pits weren't operational either... but these are all very minor points. The overall experience was incredible, and wildlife abounds... although it isn't obtrusive... except perhaps for the birds at breakfast.

We loved the resort, and met some wonderful people there as well. You don't get the pretentious golf/tennis set here. There was a broad demographic of guests... initially were were concerned that it might be an older crowd. The staff was wonderful, and I'm sure we'll miss a few that warrant mentioning, but of note were Margaret, Anthony, Steveon, Cordella, Silas, and of course, Kendol who entertained us and showed us fun tricks at the bar.

In the end, we would definitely go back... but only for a longer time!!!

My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights for our honeymoon back in August 2013 and we had the most amazing time. Palm Island is perfect and so relaxing. The travel from the US wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The airport transfer from Barbados to Union Island was simple and provided some great ocean views.

Palm Island is beautiful and incredibly peaceful. We cherished everyday and we can't wait to go back. The beach is wonderful and the water is perfectly clear and warm. There was so much to do including kayaking, hiking, biking, beaching, snorkeling, relaxing that we were never bored.

We stayed in an Island Loft, which was wonderful and I highly recommend it over the other beachfront rooms. We had our own little beachfront property and felt like the ocean was underneath us every night. I have never slept better. The beachfront lofts are tucked away so they are incredibly private and you have a wonderful porch for sitting and reading in the mornings and afternoons.

The food was delicious and so fresh. I loved every meal, especially the dinners. They usually had about 5-7 options for dinner and that was more than enough and I was actually torn many nights about what to order. The breakfast was wonderful as well with great coffee and they had the most amazing yogurt that was so fresh.

If you are thinking about booking a trip to Palm Island, definitely don't hesitate. There is nothing quite like it. You feel like you have the island to yourself and there are no other cares in the world. I can't say enough good things about this place. I have visited many islands and resorts and this by far tops the list. We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: The Island Lofts are amazing. There are few that are not beachfront, so make sure you request a beac...
