I can only ditto all the fabulous reviews others have written. We had a magical three night stay. The (gold) bower was private, comfortable and a great environment for relaxing. There are some nice paths for short bush walks - if you can tear yourself away from the double spa, wood fire, or bush views from the deck. It was well equipped (including slippers, which are a must for the concrete floors), with all the little thoughtful things provided - candles, BBQ, tin foil, bowl of fruit, fire wood and a hearty platter of breakfast goods.
We will be back - but for longer next time.

Dear Xanthe_75,

Thanks so much for your positive feedback.
It really helps keep our morale up when trying to maintain high standards in the face of the challenges of running a very small business in the face of bureaucratic obstructions in addition to dealing with the predatory tactics of some of the corporations that we find ourselves obliged to deal with !

Thanks again for your encouragement, and yes, if you can afford the time for a longer stay, please check our longer term multi-night stay special rates.

Warm regards,

Our recent stay in the Red Bower at Bower at Broulee was truly memorable, thanks to the top notch accommodation, beautifully peaceful surroundings and friendly wildlife.

We were visited by laughing kookaburras, friendly Rosellas, cheeky Lorikeets, cute red-browed finches and there was even an echidna and wallaby to grace the scene. It really was special being able to watch or hand feed (with the supplied bird seed) the beautiful and abundant birds.

Throughout the Bower : The bathroom was terrific with a double spa and double shower (huge). Soaking in the spa whilst looking through the giant window into the bushland ferns and trees was a lovely experience. The kitchen was smart, functional and included a microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine and ample breakfast, tea and coffee supplies. The lounge was comfortable and sitting in front of the lit fireplace on a rainy afternoon (as it was when we arrived) relaxed you straight away. The bedroom had a super comfortable king sized bed with drawers and some hanging space with four coat hangers.

The sound system covered every room which was a great touch and the whole bower inside and outside on the decking with the BBQ and very comfortable lounge chairs ensured that you relaxed and were rejuvenated during your stay.

I would recommend the Bower at Broulee to my friends and family, especially those looking for a little romance and a place to unwind and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and wildlife of the great southern coast.

From the moment we arrived at The Bower, and speaking with Mark, we were impressed by their desire for our time there to be one we wouldn't forget. We could tell that our enjoyment there was also important to them.
Once we got to our apartment, and noticed how secluded it was from other apartments, we felt that we were in for a great 4 nights. We had hoped that we would get to enjoy the birdlife that we had seen on The Bower's website, and this will remain one of our special memories. Having the various birds coming to feed on our private deck, and even have some feeding from our hand, just added to how special our time there was.
To keep it short, we have no hesitation in recommending The Bower, especially to any couples needing some time alone away from the busyness of life. We will certainly be recommending it to our friends.
Thank you Mark and Sue for providing such a retreat.

We do appreciate your kind words and support in recommending The Bower to your friends. We also look forward to 'hosting' you again whenever you have the opportunity to get away for another Recharge together at The Bower break.

10/10! Mark and Sue have done it again. Mark and Sue are ever so welcoming and approachable. Nothing is too hard and they truly know how to enjoy the tranquility of The Bower's settings.

This is Josh and my second time back and again sensational!! This time we were celebrating our engagement and what a way to relax, unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet.

As always, you arrive with beautiful background soothing music playing throughout the Bower (as they have a music integration system throughout), champagne in the fridge along with gourmet breakfast for your first morning.

Amazing points to paint you a picture of this place:
* there are 5 individual Bowers (with some different layouts)
* your closest Bower neighbour is over 200m away so you never have the invasion of privacy (except by the local native wildlife but I am sure they feel like we are all fitting in? :) )
* there are King sized beds that make you feel like you are sleeping on a cloud every night
* single fridge with freezer
* top loader washing machine (detergent/powder all suuplied)
* dryer
* microwave
* fan forced oven
* electric cooktop
* dishwasher (detergent/powder all supplied)
* sound system that links to the TV, iPod dock, DVD player and radio (not a blu-ray player)
* hugh corner couch that I would say 2 adults can comfortably stretch out on without touching one another
* wood fireplace (wood is all supplied, along with matches and those fire starter white cubes... makes it so easy to get the fire going)
* a container of parrot seed is supplied... can get top ups from the Office if you splurge on the feeding... hee hee...)
* a huge two person spa in the bathroom
* double headed walk-in rain showers
* ample lighting (with different mood options) throughout the Bower... my favourite is the outside night up-lighting in the trees so you can enjoy the company of the possum and rare Sugar Glider
* fans and air conditioning
* robes and slippers

What you should consider packing as nice additions:
* mince to hand feed the Kookburras, magpies, Currawongs and Superb Wrens with
* bread for the wallabies (nocturnal) and Rainbow Lorrikeets (day dwellers)
* iPod or CDs for your favourite relaxing music (even though there is some playing when you arrive)
* your favourite drinkies
* camera
* books
* DVDs if you wish
* walking shoes to enjoy the lovely walks around The Bower and Broulee
* if you are a light sleeper and wake easily from light then do pack your sleeping mask... this place really allows you to feel as though you are a part of the outdoors (not a bad thing at all as it increases the relaxing and beauty of this place)

Want to get additional pampering (this comes highly recommended as we have done this 4 times now):
* book Amy from the Broulee Wellness Centre for a massage... she will come to your Bower to do the massage... Josh and I both agree she is one of the best masseuers we have ever experienced so totally book in advance to have the wonderful experience 10/10

Yes, the wildlife is super friendly as they, like us, love food. The Rosella's are the ones that tend to bite you to get you to drop the seed but aside from that, they are beautiful and will love the pressies of food you give them. The possum and Grey Wallabies (noctural) love the corn in the bird seed and will crunch on them at night - usually from the bird house feeder you have. Aside from that the wildlife will not hurt you as they are more afraid than we are. So enjoy the serenity.

You can totally relax and let go of time here! You can unwind in the peacefulness of the surroundings and get back to nature. Absolute bliss!!

Josh and I cannot wait to be back again! Do book if you need to unwind and totally recharge!!!! Oustanding!!!

Room Tip: All the Bowers are amazing... any one of them is a 10/10 stay and your closest Bower neighbour is 20...

We had read the reviews but nothing could have prepared us for the tranquility and peace that we found at The Bower. It is set in quiet bushland with nothing but the birds and other wildlife breaking the silence. We were in the Red Bower, but all of the Bowers seemed equally private, well maintained and appealing. The owners (Mark and Sue) have been fastidious in setting the Bower up - everything you could possibly need was there! We opened the front door and were immediately met by soothing music, soft lighting and relaxing aromas. The fireplace had already been filled with wood and newspaper - all ready for lighting (matches under the kitchen sink). The lorikeets were on the back deck waiting for their afternoon feed (a full container of appropriate bird seed was under the kitchen sink, of course). As it was close on sunset, a couple of mosquitoes were also around, but not for long (mosquito coils under the kitchen sink!).

We had taken an esky with some meat, salad and drinks for dinner and were amazed when we lifted the lid on the BBQ to find the plate looking like it had never been used! Many hours of cleaning by Mark had gone into that one!

The highlight had to be the hand feeding of the kookaburras and magpies. The raw mince went down a treat, and at one point there were 4 kookaburras and a baby magpie all eating from the hand. And at the same time, the lorikeets and parrots were busily polishing off the birdseed about an arms-length away. What an amazing experience.

Mark and Sue provide a fantastic breakfast spread for your first morning there. There are plenty of small grocery shops within 5 - 10 minutes drive so it is easy to BYO food and drinks for the rest of your stay - and the fully fitted out kitchen makes it easy! But if you really want to get away from "household chores", you can order food in from some local places - menus looked great, but it does come at a price .

The Bower is all about getting away from it all, and it succeeds in every way. If you run out of shampoo or need more towels, or want a good DVD to watch, just visit Mark up at the 'shed'. Otherwise, there is just you and the wildlife neighbours.

We might have only been there for a few days, but it felt like a month. We will be back!!

Room Tip: All the Bowers looked perfect. They have airconditioning as well as the fireplace, so would be comf...

Hi Shelinds,

It is so rewarding for our team of 'bower birds' to know that you enjoyed the accommodation and the privacy of our natural setting. We do aim to anticipate your every need and it certainly is gratifying when we do.
Yes, the bowers are designed so you can be completely self contained if you choose, but as you point out, there is a growing range of local food suppliers, cafe's and chef's hat quality restaurants springing up in the surrounding area.
Cheers & thanks again for your kind words,
Mark

PS: I'd like to take credit for the fastidious cleanliness of the BBQ & the pre-set fireplace, but I'm compelled to confess that this is the work of Ricky, our trusty maintenance man !

PPS: At this stage, the premium Spa Bowers [only] have R/C air conditioning but all of the bowers are built for the benefits of passive solar design principles, for maximum comfort in all seasons, with minimal environmental footprint.

My husband and I had a 3 night stay at the end of August / early September for my birthday . On arrival (friday night) we were very impressed with the setting - dim lighting, background music, chocolates, strawberries and some breakfast provisions in the fridge - very lovely and welcoming. Fire place gave the place a very special romantic and cosy feel. When the fire place is not on however, it gets pretty cold , especially in the bathroom. The next morning in full light noticed that the sink area in the bathroom had lots of dead insects and the hand washing liquid bottle would not pump the soap properly. Also one of the racks In the dishwasher was broken, but still perfectly functional. The place has light coloured roller blinds in the bedroom , those are not the block out type, so it gets very bright very early in the morning, hence no chance of sleeping in. The rest of the cabin has no blinds or window coverings of any kind, including the bathroom, I felt completely exposed at all times, even though we didn't see other people around , it would be nice to have that option if you like more privacy. And to the wild life ... Yes, there were plenty ... One that looked like a possum was particularly territorial and not happy having us on its backyard, it was not at all scared of humans , just came a little too close , I felt rather frightened to be on the verandah area as it just wouldn't leave... I might be suffering from being to much of a city girl, but it was a little too exposed and natural for my liking, may be that's just me.

Room Tip: The nearby mogo town is too pretty to miss.

Hi LisaK,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Bower at Broulee.
We've taken your feedback on board and we're glad that overall you felt The Bower deserved a four star rating, despite your misgivings about parts of the experience.
Generally when guests check-in we're able to advise them of some of the “local inhabitants” and things to consider. Due to the late time of your arrival and our agreement to leave the key in the door and allow you to go straight to your Bower, this briefing was unfortunately not possible and may also have contributed to the small bugs getting inside. As you would have experienced, we leave the cabin lit up, with music playing etc. and being I the middle of the bush, the lights at night attract lots of small insects which still manage to occasionally find their way in despite the fully screened windows and doors!

In relation to the light in the mornings, we actually had a stock of eye-masks available to give to light sleepers who prefer to sleep in. However, in response to your feedback, we've now decided to include an eye-mask with the complimentary guest slippers etc. provided on arrival to all guests and have also remedied the hand basin soap pump, so thank you for letting us know. We are considering the installation of darker ‘blackout’ blinds in addition to the existing blinds, as part of our next re-furbishment project, when funds permit.

The Bower's location and private bush setting on over 100 acres allowed us to locate each individual Bower far enough [100m] apart with a thick screen of bushland between each one, to maintain guest privacy and purposely design each building in an open plan style with wide expanses of glass to "bring the bushland inside". As we don’t cater for children, our guests are focussed on ensuring that privacy is maintained, though we acknowledge that it can be a little daunting to those used to living in the city.
On the property, guests may encounter a wide range of wildlife including possums, marsupial gliders, snakes and goannas. As you can see from other reviews, this is something the vast majority of our guests really value. We actually encourage our guests to observe [and interact with] the wildlife to some extent though do not recommend that they are approached at all, as of course they are not domesticated. The possum around your particular bower and his mate had actually produced a baby in the weeks before your stay, so the Dad was probably being a little more territorial than usual. However, they will generally leave if a person insists and we would have been happy to come down and “usher” him off, if you preferred.

Notwithstanding, we understand that the openness and close connection to nature is not everyone's cup of tea and understand that The Bower experience cannot meet everyone’s needs. Thanks again for your feedback.

The Bower was such a delight. Five nights in the middle of winter with a cosy fireplace, no interruptions & my husband of 25 years. Surprise after surprise. There were lorikeets, parakeets, cockatoos, king parrots, crows & magpies literally on our porch. The kookaburra came to eat seed from my hand. We were surrounded by bush and snuck up on at dust by several wallabies (one with a joey). The best surprise was lying back in the candlelight in a spa full of bubbles to have an echidna slowly saunter by the window. Everything was thought of. There was a ready stack of firewood, candles, soft fluffy towels, huge bed, air conditioning, breakfast in the fridge, Pure delight. Great little towns close by to visit. We gladly recommend this retreat to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review about your experience at The Bower [and sorry it's taken so long for us to reply ... we've been pretty frantic with one thing or another over the past months].
I have shared your feedback with the whole team so they can see how their attention to detail and great customer service is appreciated.
We'd love to 'host' you again when you have the opportunity, although as you know the word host is not quite what we do, we aim to give you the maximum privacy possible.
