El Racó is the perfect place to get away from it all for couples and small groups of friends (nb no children allowed!)
Tucked away in a tiny village which seems to have stayed exactly the same for 500 years, it's incredibly peaceful and the staff bend over backwards to make you feel at home without intruding on your time.

The breakfast is amazing if you are a fan of Spanish sausages and cured meats. Everything they serve is made in-house or in the local village. The decor is quirky and eclectic, and each room has a unique 'feel' - ours was perhaps a little dark but there are several large communal areas you can sit and read. Downstairs there is an open fireplace which they light in the evenings when it's cooler out of high season.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3, the Brown room. We liked it very much but be aware that the view of the village...

I stayed one night in Room 3 with beautiful tree and mountain views. The room was very well decorated and had a very large bathroom, large tub, bath robes, slippers. it had a luxurious feel. The service was very attentive and the dinner and breakfast excellent.

There were 4 horses, cats and 5 friendly dogs. The place had a family feel.

Will return.

Room Tip: All the rooms are on the same 2 nd floor. They all have good views as there are no obstructions to t...

this is away from all the main tourist routes, on the edge of a beautiful but quiet village. If you like the busy beaches and cities too - then they are not far away in a car. The hotel is really a collection of apartments, some single room some with sitting room and dressing room. All with separate bathrooms. Each with its own style and decoration, all carefully htought out. The sitting rooms and restaurant too are very tasteful. What you will relaly enjoy is the calm and inspiring surroundings - the beautiful gardens, the two pools, the deliious food, sourced from local farms and fishers. The staff are attentive and friendly helpiung at your every need. It is the place you go to get away from all the stresses of life. A slight touch of the new age about some of the spa and massage options, but you do not need to take these, there is plenty of relaxation and enjoyment apart from this. Thoroughly recommend.

Room Tip: Some of the apartments even have their own little garden separate from the main gardens. Choose one...

The hotel is NO-Kids place which makes it really quite. You'll get a feeling from home away from home. The owner Ivan recommended us really good restaurants to go and places to visit. We have spent 3 nights in Beige suite (2 storey little house with own garden, fireplace and huge jaccuzzi) and didn't want to go back home.
Stay for dinner in hotel and you will not regret.
The common feeling is fantastic - starting from breakfast with homemade sausades and pastries up to great gin-tonic cocktails (with a choice of 5 different Gin ) in the evening while you listen to live music.
We'll send our friends come back soon!

Room Tip: There are 10 rooms and all are different. Check which room you'll be staying contacting hotel di...

If you are looking for place where luxury and silence are all arround, this is the place to go. Josep and Ivan ( owners ), make you feel like you are at home, and take care about all those little details close to perfection, to being honest it's difficult to make it better. Well done guys!

Pease make yourself an extra and stay for dinner (25€ pax), Josep creations are really good, plus having dinner by the pool in the garden under a summer sky full of stars makes it one of the best places you can stay, nearly like your own home.

Room Tip: Better room with views to the pool garden

This was our second visit to El Raco, something we never usually do as always want to try something new. But this haven of calmness and comfort keeps tempting us back, we can't fault anything! Ivan's attention to every detail the and his passion for the place just makes it a truely delightfully relaxing experience. We'll be back which room next year?

We spent three nights in the Roja (Red) Suite at El Raco de Madremanya -- and found the hotel and its environs very quiet and very relaxing. Ivan was very welcoming, giving us ideas about places to visit and about good, local restaurants. He also gave a very good, thorough introduction to the property. The grounds are quite pretty in the winter and we imagine that they would be very beautiful in the warmer months of the year.

The hotel is a wonderful place to visit in the winter for a laid-back stay. The Roja Suite is on the upper floor of the older building and is reached by two steep flights of uneven stairs. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom and living area by two stairs. So, the suite is not terribly suitable for "the walking challenged." The suite is accurately portrayed on the website -- and is very comfortable, particularly in the winter with its fireplace. There are radiators in the bedroom, livingroom and bathroom and if more heat is desired, there are additional reversable heaters in the bedroom and livingroom. There is a large, flat screen TV in the livingroom and has an HDMI connection. Robes and slippers are provided.

We ate two dinners at the hotel. Typical of Spain, the dinner is served late -- at 9 pm. One must choose one's appetizer and entrée by 7 pm on the day one wants to stay for dinner. The dessert choice is made at the end of the meal. There is a good selection of local wines. There was a meat and a fish selection each night that we stayed for dinner. Overall, the food is nice and Ivan and his team provided very attentive service throughout the meal.

There is a honor bar on the ground floor, where one can choose from all kinds of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks -- and there also are cosy sitting areas and a large fireplace to enjoy. The decorations in the hotel come from around the world and are a delight to examine.

For those who are curious -- we would note that one can use a GPS to find the village of Madremanya. But, the GPS is not useful for finding the hotel in the village, because GPS directs you to the front door of the hotel -- which is not possible to reach by car. So, when you decide to stay here, use Ivan's directions as you approach Madremanya!

The hotel is very well located to visit Girona, Figueres and the small fishing villages on the Mediterranean -- and even Barcelona by train. Do go and stay here!
