I spent 10 days at C'an Torna, and I must say that this was the best vacation in my whole life. Fist of all, this was the only real rest I had, not just a change of location or distraction from daily routine.
This place is located in the hills, near a small town called Esporles. Don't be scared, it's just 12 km from Palma, the capital of the island. Theres is a big territory with a lot of places to sit, sunbathe or walk. The owner of the house makes his own wine (cabernet souvignon, totally fantastic) and olive oil (great also). I was given a bottle of wine and olive oil upon arrival by the way.
Everything is completed in the same style, it's an old house built centuries ago, but renovated for all modern needs. There is climat control, bathtub and shower, bidet, huge comfortable bed, TV - well, everything to make you comfortable like in the center of a megapolis, but meanwhile you're over the hills and far away! There is a beautiful pool overlooking the hills - it's just so fantastic, you must see it to understand! In the morning you wake up hearing just hte birds. In the evening you go to sleep hearing only the crickets. There are shutters on each window, so you can sleep in complete darkness. Peace and quiet are the best worlds to describe it.
Breakfast is... imagine you came to your granparents' own farm and your grandfather made his own cheese and meat stuff just for you, and your grandmother made her own bread and pastry just for you every morning. This is it! I remember waking up early in the morning, and sneaking in the kitchen before breakfast hours to return the glasses I had borrowed in the evening, and I could smell the bread!! It's fantastic. The owners of the house are always there to help. They recommend places and people you can trust and who wont' cheat yo because you are tourists - good restaurants, honest taxi drivers and so on. We were recommended a terrific restaurant in Esporles, and we liked it so much that stayed there for a long time, and the owner of the house came there to see if we were all right, to make sure we didn't get lost and offered us a lift back home. Yep, just like at grandfather's! Everyone is so friendly and eager to help! I've travelled much and been to lots of places, but I've never ever seen anything like this. And it's very conveniently located. If you have a car, then you can go anywhere directly from there, if not you can use the buses which run perfectly. Everyone speaks good English. It's safe and very very comfortable in all aspects. If you are lookign for a place to relax, C'an Torna will be perfect. And if you want to see the Mallorca island, to understand it's culter, and feel its inner atmosphere, this place is even more perfect for you! Originally I booked 5 nights in C'an Torna and 5 nights in Can Pastilla (that's almost Palma), but when I moved to Can Pastilla I couldn't stay there after 5 nights in heaven, and moved back to C'an Torna!! Wow wow and wow, I love this place!!! There are great restaurants located very closely, you will love them also. By the way, Valldemossa, the most beautiful place in Mallorca is just a few minutes driving from the house.
