“A Jewel of the "Norman" North”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

With a relatively intact Curtain Wall and Keep, a motte for the kids to burn energy on, would recommend a visit. Good parking on site, and an unspoilt village laid out its protective shadow. Take a picnic, visit the hermitage and walk the coquet path. With luck, in the summer at the weekend, the cricket club may be there against the magnificent back drop. The only word or caution is the keep steps aren't really navigable without care and attention. But worth every penny.

“Was Warkworth worth the walk?”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

Walked down from Alnmouth on a rather overcast morning. The first sight of Warkworth was of the bridge and gate, very striking! The town is very attractive, though spoilt by too much traffic and is a little run down in parts. The Castle is very fine, the Keep is largely intact, and I watched a couple of very good shows. It was very good value for money, though I was disappointed that they had decided not to hand out the audio tours, as advertised. Note bring a picnic or eat in the town as there is no cafe.
